Autohunter Focus: 2003 Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG
over the years I own almost every post-war model produced by Mercedes-Benz. Whether it's a luxury car or a sport/GT model, many of these cars are impressive, well-crafted and well-designed for their specific tasks. That being said, in my opinion, there is a Mercedes that stands out for the rest, especially when considering the model built from 1990 to now: the SL55 AMG. A few years ago, I bought the SL55 AMG and used it as a "Montel Auto Week car" for two consecutive years. The vehicle performs very well, with a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds and a 0-100 mph time of 9.9 seconds, which is only one tenth slower than the Ferrari 575m Maranello. If you think of it as the 575 version of Mercedes, you won't be too far away. Remember, Mercedes-Benz literally invention The luxury sports/GT convertible category was of excellent quality when it launched the R230 (SL-Class) generation in 2001. Compared to the later SL63,…

Autohunter Spotlight: 2005 Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG
Twenty years ago, If you have about $121,500 for leeway and want to buy a sporty two-door, you can buy five Honda Accord LX coupes – every week day of the week. Or, you just have to bring yourself into a Mercedes-Benz SL55. At that time, Mercedes-Benz was one of the most technologically advanced (and performance) vehicles on the planet. This is a feature on Autohunter on the 2005 Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG. It is offered by private sellers in Patterson, California, and the auction will end Thursday. It's hard to believe that cars have been around for 20 years. According to Carfax's report, its odometer shows only 63,525 miles of enjoying a pampered life. As its residence spans Texas, Colorado and California, it has received over 40 services – many of which are performed at Mercedes dealerships. The latest record of the report is that emission inspections were conducted in December 2024 (and of course passed). The 2005 SL is…
Mercedes may return AMG and Maybach S-Class coupes
A new trademark filing hints that the S-Class coupe could return, possibly as part of a limited Myth series or a custom bodywork program. Recently filed trademarks in Europe show two coupes based on the Mercedes S-Class sedan. These models feature AMG and Maybach branding, the latter with a split rear window. The listings weren't submitted by Mercedes themselves, but may hint at limited-production models. Two-door luxury coupes may be a dying breed, but Mercedes-Benz doesn't seem ready to let the concept die just yet. A new trademark application filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) hints that the S-Class coupe may return, this time in ultra-exclusive Maybach and AMG configurations. The trademarks, filed by a Swiss company called Robu Aktiengesellschaft, point to a coachbuilding project that could incorporate the elegance of a flagship sedan into a two-door model. Daily Pick: 2009 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG
I still remember fondly The first day of the C63 press conference. It was held in Paradise Valley, Arizona, and it was my first time riding in a car. After a few miles we came to a traffic light. What should be parked next to me but a Ferrari 355 Spyder. This guy literally defines the Ferrari driver stereotype: wearing a Ferrari Polo shirt, a two-tone Rolex Datejust, Persol sunglasses, and sitting in the passenger seat is a woman one-third his age. He looked at the C63 with little interest, noting the wider fenders and huge tires (not to mention the exhaust note our car made). When the light came on, he took off with a lot of noise and wheelspin, but we were already about 50 yards ahead of him. When he met us at the next traffic light, he looked at our silver sedan in confusion. "What the hell is that Mercedes? I really want to catch you!"…

Daily Pick: 2005 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG
I have a great reputation Buying a very expensive car at the end of the depreciation cycle. I've done this with Aston Martins, Ferraris, Porsches, BMWs, etc. It's amazing to be able to buy a new car worth over $150,000 for less than $30,000. They still offer a class-leading experience just like they originally offered at the price of a mid-range Toyota Camry. Today's pick is a 2005 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG, a perfect example of one of these cars. It was powered by an amazing V12 engine with 604 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque, an interior packed with the best Mercedes had to offer at the time, and modern/classic styling that looks as good now as it did before. The car is new. These features combine to make this SL the perfect open-top GT racer. I attended the press launch for the SL65, so I know from experience that these are truly incredible cars. On a trip from Los…

Internal combustion engine, hybrid or electric car? BMW M3 CS vs. AMG C63 S vs. Tesla Model 3
These three compact luxury sedans are all incredibly fast, but they achieve their speed in different ways. September 15, 2024 09:19 Electric vehicles can achieve faster 0-60 mph acceleration than hybrid and gasoline vehicles. Hybrid vehicles take advantage of an additional power source to improve performance despite the added weight. The AWD system, combined with advanced launch control, significantly improves acceleration. Speed and power are more important than ever in the automotive world. These three cars (Tesla, Mercedes, and BMW) prove that performance can come from a variety of sources. Two drag races give us insight into how these three sports sedans work. The Mercedes-Benz C43 AMG is a car that many car enthusiasts dream of. It has a powerful engine and luxurious configurations that can bring you a thrilling driving experience. Start the journey The C43 AMG has a powerful 3.0-liter V6 biturbo engine and has only 3,500 kilometers on the clock, so it's practically new. After a cold start and warming up, we made sure the tank was full. With a full tank, the car has a range of around 550 kilometers, which we'll keep a close eye on during our trip. on the way The weather was mild with occasional rain as we set out from Delhi to Mumbai. A 15-year-old AMG Mercedes, three beauticians, 36 hours
The sound of the dyno spinning echoes through the garage. The whine grows in intensity, while the echo of the German-built 5.5-liter V8 assaults the ears with a deafening roar that could drown out most rock concerts. This is a 2003 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG built by Alex' Palmeri, and the dyno run was the subject of one of his recent videos, which came to our attention about a month ago. Another thing that blew our minds was the Obsidian paint finish on this car. He thinks the car's exterior is top-notch. And, most of us agree with him. See, this E55 is unique because, in the purist W211 community, it's considered a unicorn. From the paint to the options list on this particular example, where details like the factory-installed "blue" hue on this car are very important, it has all the characteristics that make this E55 a "future classic." However, there's one thing that really made this car a local…
