Vietnam pays citizens up to $200 to report bad drivers
From this month, anyone who reports a traffic offense can receive up to 10% of the fine go through Chris Chilton January 6, 2025 15:15 Vietnam has launched a controversial plan to improve road safety that relies on whistleblowing. Starting Jan. 1, anyone who anonymously reports a traffic violation and provides evidence can receive a reward of up to $200. Other safety measures include more cameras and fines 30 times higher than before. Traffic police can't be everywhere at the same time, but in recent years they've been helped by drivers and pedestrians who turned over camera footage of dangerous activity. In Vietnam, however, the authorities went a step further and actually paid civilians for bad-behaving road users. Starting this month, Vietnamese citizens and organizations will be eligible to receive rewards of up to VND5 million ($200) if they provide evidence of road safety violations. The actual amount earned may vary because it is 10% of the penalty amount, so…
Porsche Boxster impersonates 911 GT3 RS and it’s too bad
If you've ever wondered what the Temu version of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS looks like, this is it go through Brad Anderson December 30, 2024 18:15 A customized Porsche Boxster clumsily tries to pass off as a GT3 RS. The owner replaced the taillights and rear bumper in his ambitious rebuild attempt. This quirky project highlights the polarizing world of ambitious yet awkward car modifications. The Porsche Boxster has long been known as an excellent sports car - lightweight, nimble and fun to drive. But apparently, for one owner, "very good" isn't enough. Instead, they decided to dress up the Boxster like the pricier Porsche 911 GT3 RS. The result? An awkward and slightly embarrassing mashup is causing a stir online. The bizarre specimen was discovered recently by a Reddit user who couldn't resist snapping a photo and sharing it with the world. From the looks of it, this car belongs somewhere in the United States, and while we…

Infiniti is in such bad shape it’s now available for store pairing
Infiniti dealers are struggling to make a profit, so some are teaming up with Nissan dealers December 4, 2024 19:45 Infiniti's sharp decline in sales has put dealers in a difficult position, as some are no longer profitable. To avoid a possible exodus, some retailers were allowed to partner with Nissan dealers. Despite the partnership, co-branded dealers still need to deliver an Infiniti-worthy experience. Infiniti is in trouble due to oversights, missteps and broken promises. This left the brand with an aging and largely bland product lineup that consumers shunned. The numbers illustrate Infiniti's U.S. sales, which have plummeted nearly 45% over the past decade. The company sold 116,455 cars in 2013, but last year that number dropped to 64,699. That's a huge drop, one that the redesigned QX80 can never offset. More: Infiniti may kill QX50 and QX55, offer rebadged Nissan Rogue Infiniti seems to have acknowledged how bleak things are, as they are looking to their families for…
A bad day for Ford: Four recalls and two investigations
Automakers have issued recalls related to fuel and oil leaks and random airbag deployments, and are under investigation for seat belt and battery failures go through Chris Chilton November 18, 2024 13:40 Ford has issued four recalls so far this month, including one related to fuel line brackets and another related to oil leaks. The other two recalls are due to missing air bag tags and possible inadvertent deployment of the passenger air bag. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is also investigating seat belt failures in Ford vehicles and battery issues that may have caused a loss of engine power. When you sell nearly 2 million cars, trucks and SUVs each year, it's inevitable that some reliability issues will arise. But now we're barely halfway through November, and Ford has already issued four recalls, and NHTSA has announced it's investigating two more issues at the automaker. All four recalls were issued on the same day, although they involve different…
Are electric cars good or bad for the economy?
Is the shift to more electric vehicles (EVs) a good thing or a bad thing for the overall economy? —Richard T., Boise, Idaho According to S&P Global Mobility Forecasts, electric vehicle sales have grown significantly over the past two decades, with around 50% of vehicles on the road expected to be electric by 2040. Individuals who can afford the initial cost of an electric vehicle can significantly reduce their carbon footprint while saving an average of $2,200 per year in fuel and maintenance costs. However, at the national level, experts have debated whether the increased electricity revenue, job creation and reduced oil dependence associated with electric vehicles outweigh the costs of installing charging stations and upgrading the grid. Charging could boost local business revenue The U.S. power grid uses only 50% of its electricity capacity to accommodate large swings during peak demand. Currently, 90% of electric vehicle charging occurs at homes and businesses during off-peak hours, so the amount of…

Does your Camry smell bad? Toyota will give you $100 off
Toyota has agreed to pay a $7,500 settlement to the plaintiffs involved in the case. California Camry owners can get up to $100 for out-of-pocket HVAC repairs. The lawsuit claims mold growth in the HVAC system caused a persistent foul odor inside the Camry. If you own a 2012-2015 Toyota Camry purchased or leased in California, you may be eligible for $100 in compensation from the company. What is the cause? A faulty HVAC system can cause unpleasant odors to waft throughout your vehicle's cabin during the winter and summer. var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:()}; adpushup.que.push(function() { if (adpushup.config.platform !== "DESKTOP"){ adpushup.triggerAd("4d84e4c9 -9937-4f84-82c0-c94544ee6f2a"); } else{ adpushup.triggerAd("6a782b01-facb-45f3-a88f-ddf1b1f97657"); } }); In 2015, a class-action lawsuit was filed in Florida over the alleged odor problem. The lawsuit stated that owners smelled a bad odor when they turned on their air conditioners, and even after repairs, the odor remained. The plaintiffs in the lawsuit believed that a design flaw in the…
