Ola Electric launches Bharat battery made in India
Ola returned on August 15 with the usual slew of surprises, including the launch of its in-house manufactured lithium battery, called the 'Bharat Cell', which will be used in its electric vehicles by the first quarter of fiscal 2026. The innovative 4680 Bharat Cell, which has over 70 patents, is claimed to have five times higher energy density, 1.5 times faster charging and 10% more range than the 2170 cells currently used in the company's scooters. It marks a new chapter in India's 'Atmanirbharta' initiative to minimise its reliance on imports. Apart from being used in Ola’s fleet of electric vehicles, these cutting-edge batteries can also be used for grid and residential energy storage. Their low cobalt content and high energy density improve performance and price. Notably, these batteries will be manufactured at Ola’s Gigafactory in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu.
