Donald Trump may block US government and military
The incoming president is expected to undo many of his predecessor's electrification and emissions policies go through Brad Anderson 20 hours ago Military vehicle manufacturers have already invested in electric vehicles. The incoming president may repeal the mandate that government fleets consist only of electric vehicles by 2027. Donald Trump is set to return to the Oval Office next month, and his transition team is already planning a number of changes that will broadly impact the entire auto industry. As we recently revealed, fuel efficiency standards could be significantly lowered, EV incentives could be eliminated, and the federal government and the U.S. military could be blocked from buying more electric vehicles. As things stand, the U.S. government must buy more electric vehicles while replacing older gas-guzzling ones. Additionally, the government's light-duty fleet must be entirely zero-emission vehicles by 2027. However, Trump is expected to rescind the directive. Additionally, he is expected to end Department of Defense (DOD) programs aimed at…

Direct Connection will also offer three new supercharger kits for Hellcrate October 30, 2024 19:44 Dodge's Direct Connection returns to SEMA with two new crate engine blocks. The Hellephant A30 module is priced at $8,815 and is aimed at DIY builders. Dodge will also offer three new supercharger packages for the 6.2-liter Hellcrate V8. Stellantis' star attraction at the SEMA show was its Plymouth GTX electric hot rod, but there's still energy running through the company's veins. That's evident today as they announced two new crate engine blocks that will be available through Dodge Direct Connect. The elephant in the room is the block version of the Hellephant, known as the A30 426 Supercharged Crate HEMI engine. While the name doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, it produces 1,000 hp (746 kW / 1,014 PS) and 950 lb-ft (1,287 Nm) of torque when fully assembled. Pricing starts at $8,815, and the company says it will be available "in a variety…
SEMA sues California to block sweeping electric vehicle mandate
SEMA said the proposal would only allow zero-emission vehicles in the state, regardless of where they were purchased or registered SEMA is suing the California Air Resources Board to prevent the proposed regulations from taking effect. The group believes CARB will "far exceed" their authority, which could have devastating effects. SEMA and its partners in the lawsuit say the regulations only allow zero-emission vehicles in the state, regardless of where the vehicle was purchased or registered. SEMA and the Work Truck Association (NTEA) are teaming up to sue the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to stop its electric vehicle mandate. The groups argue that CARB's actions "go far beyond the California Constitution and the state's statutory powers and will have dire consequences for an industry that has historically led the way to cleaner, safer vehicles through innovation and American ingenuity." The two groups are upset about the Advanced Clean Fleet regulations, which only allow zero-emission vehicles in the state, regardless…
Ford Explorer police SUV recalled due to engine fires
About 85,000 Ford Explorer police interceptor vehicles have been recalled due to engine failures and fires. August 16, 2024 — A Ford Explorer police SUV experienced an engine failure that caused oil and fuel vapor to leak into the engine compartment, causing an engine fire. Ford is warning Explorer Police Interceptor owners to watch out for unusual engine noises, unexpected loss of engine power, and of course, smoke coming out of the engine compartment. Any of these signs mean the Explorer needs to be parked and turned off quickly. The recall of approximately 85,000 Explorers does not include consumer vehicles, only 2020 to 2022 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor vehicles. “The root cause of the fire was engine oil and/or fuel vapors that became uncontrollable when the cylinder block ruptured and ignited on hot surfaces. The cylinder block ruptured after piston and connecting rod failure, which was collateral damage after a high-load event caused bearing seizure. The cause of a bearing…
Kia Sorento engine problems include coolant leak, power
Regulators are closely investigating a problem with the Kia Sorento's 3.3L Lambda II engine. July 26, 2024 — Kia Sorento engine issues led the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to launch an investigation into coolant loss, high engine temperatures and smoke from the 3.3L Lambda II engine compartment. The 2016 to 2017 Kia Sorento SUVs were experiencing engine issues, with drivers complaining of a loss of power. NHTSA began its investigation into Kia Sorento engine issues in November 2023 and first requested data on the 3.3-liter Lambda II engine. Safety regulators were aware of complaints about the Sorento engine problems, but Kia responded to regulators in February 2024 that it had received more than 2,000 complaints and other reports. In addition, more than 2,411 Lambda II engine warranty claims had been filed. However, only 53 complaints were filed about the Sorento being underpowered. Kia told NHTSA that most of the complaints involved minor engine problems. After safety regulators removed duplicate…
