General Motors is recalling 7,600 electric vehicles that are supposed to make noise to protect pedestrians. December 18, 2024 — General Motors is recalling 2025 Chevrolet Equinox electric vehicles due to a problem with the pedestrian warning sound system. General Motors says the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV pedestrian warning audio system may not have the correct software calibration in more than 7,600 vehicles. This prevents exterior sound level issues when the vehicle is driven between 12.4 mph and 18.6 mph. Electric vehicles lack the common sound produced by internal combustion engines, so federal regulations require electric vehicles to emit sounds to pedestrians, cyclists and more. GM said pedestrians may not know whether an approaching vehicle is speeding up or slowing down. Dealers will update the software calibration in the body control module to correct the sound issue.
