Queen of Oklahoma | Classic Car Restoration Club
This photo is of my 1973 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, taken on Route 66 in Oklahoma. The car was originally purchased by Vogue magazine in London and brought to the United States in 1984 by a banker from Ada, Oklahoma. His estate sold it to an exotic car dealer in Kansas City, where I purchased it in 2014. She is Caribbean Blue with a tan leather interior and has only 67,000 miles on it. She has won several car shows and has been featured in Rolls Royce and Bentley Owners Magazines twice. I named her "Queen Leeds II" because people kept asking me her name so I thought it was appropriate considering her British Royal lineage. The Rolls-Royce is an incredible car and very complex. It has an integrated brake/suspension hydraulic system which was quite revolutionary at the time. My particular model also has a leather sunroof which is very rare. In fact, she drives and rides like she is on…
My first and only classic car?
My late brother John and I started to develop an interest in cars in the 80's. It started with attending local car cruise nights and grew into something more. John found a 1957 Ford Telescopic Truck in Iowa that needed restoration and bought it and drove it as is. As for me, I never dreamed that I would own or be able to afford a classic car, but that all changed one Saturday morning in 1988. That morning, a 1967 Chevrolet Impala Convertible was listed in the Boston Globe for sale, asking $700. When I got home, John called and said I should call and make an offer, I offered $500, and later that day, I got a call saying they would accept it. We drove 90 minutes from Boston to Cape Cod to see the car, and as we pulled into the driveway, a woman in her 60s nervously came out of her house. It turned out there was…
Father and Son Malibu | Classic Car Restoration Club
I raced cars legally and illegally in the NY/NJ area as a kid. I made some money on the track and won quite a few trophies. About 13 years ago, my young son asked me about racing and the muscle car era I grew up in, and asked me if we could find something to build together. Naturally, I said yes! We found a 1981 Malibu 2 door coupe that someone had converted from a 6 cylinder to an 8 cylinder, but the car was a mess! Cracked body, torn interior, rust, dents and dents. So we bought it! Thank God my friend had a garage that we could use and a friend who was a custom painter. Anyway, we started disassembling the car mechanically and cosmetically and began replacing parts, built a 383 stroker small block, swapped the rear axle for a Ford 9-inch and put 4.10 rear gears in it, beefed up the 350 automatic and installed a…
Long-running GTO event | Classic Car Restoration Club
I purchased my first car, a 1966 Pontiac GTO, in May of 1968 and have never left it. After enjoying the car for many years, I underwent a frame-off restoration that was completed in 2016. The car originally came from the factory with a 389 cubic inch engine and 4-barrel carburetor, but has now been upgraded to the factory Tri-Power setup and factory front disc brakes that were in line with the standards of the time. I drive my GTO once a week. Oh! Yeah! My wife was also born in 1969 and I still own both cars. Bob Peterson

Ventura Nationals Welcome Night | Classic Car Restoration
With the grandeur of the Ventura Nationals, it attracts enthusiasts and manufacturers from all over the U.S. Of course, for many in attendance, that means a long journey, and the local automotive community rolls out the red carpet for all who come to compete. On the afternoon and evening before the national championship, local auto shops host open houses, inviting everyone to bring their cars to relieve the stress of the trip to Ventura and fill their bellies with some tacos.
