EPA allocates $3 billion to clean, decarbonize U.S. ports
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded $3 billion in grants to 55 projects in 27 states and territories as part of its Clean Ports Initiative, marking a major push to decarbonize U.S. ports. Transforming ports with zero-emission technology The funds will support the purchase of more than 1,500 pieces of cargo handling equipment, 1,000 haul trucks, 10 locomotives and 20 vessels. In addition, the port will benefit from the development of shore power systems, battery-powered and hydrogen charging infrastructure, and solar power generation. Cary S. GM Duramax lawsuit partially dismissed on appeal
The Duramax diesel engine emissions class action lawsuit affects the Silverado and Sierra 2500 and 3500. September 2, 2024 — After the GM Duramax lawsuit was dismissed and appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, portions of the litigation remain ongoing. The appeals showed that different judges can interpret exactly the same law and reach completely different conclusions. Two judges on the Sixth Circuit ruled that parts of the lawsuit should not be dismissed, but another judge disagreed. The GM Duramax lawsuit was filed in 2017 after several automakers were sued over diesel emissions issues following Volkswagen's diesel emissions problems. The class action lawsuit alleges that GM's Duramax diesel engines in 2011 through 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 and 2011 through 2016 GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 diesel trucks emit excessive levels of nitrogen oxides. Arizona files lawsuit over Ram 2500 and 3500 diesel vehicles
Arizona's attorney general filed a lawsuit alleging that Ram trucks were equipped with illegal emissions devices. July 20, 2024 — Arizona's attorney general has filed a lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler and engine maker Cummins, accusing the companies of selling illegal Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 diesel trucks to more than 23,600 Arizona residents. Attorney General Kris Mayes alleges that Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 trucks built from 2013 to 2019 were equipped with 6.7-liter engines and had illegal emissions suppression devices installed. The attorney general claims that Ram diesel trucks were falsely marketed as “super clean” and environmentally friendly, with extremely low emissions. According to the Arizona lawsuit, consumers were duped into buying Ram trucks that were purportedly more powerful and efficient than gasoline-powered trucks.
