More than 17,000 vehicles are equipped with front airbags that can harm occupants. The recall involves the 2017-2020 Fiat 124 Spider, which has a software error in the airbag control module. This could cause the front airbags to deploy with too much force during a collision. About 17,400 vehicles are being recalled not only because the problem is dangerous, but also because they violate federal safety standards regarding neck injuries. Chrysler learned about the airbag control module problem from Mazda in July. In a collision, dual-stage airbag deployment may occur instead of the intended single-stage airbag deployment. 2019 Ford Expedition owners complained about seatbelt pretensioners suddenly activating. August 1, 2024 — The Ford Expedition recall prompted the government to close an investigation into seatbelt pretensioners in 2019 Ford Expeditions that activated for no apparent reason. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched an investigation into the Ford Expedition in November 2023 after owners complained about unexpected deployment of the seatbelt pretensioners. Seatbelt pretensioners help protect occupants in certain crashes. In a frontal collision, the pretensioners pull the seatbelt towards the occupant's body for a split second. Retractable pretensioners pull the shoulder belt and, in some collisions, pull it closer to the body. Ford Expedition owners sometimes hear a loud pop before the torso seat belts tighten. August 1, 2024 — Hyundai is recalling nearly 50,000 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid SUVs because the vehicles' air bags may not deploy in a crash or the air bags may deploy suddenly for no apparent reason. The recalled 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) may have an issue with the main floor wiring harness. These floor harnesses can rub against the passenger side second row bench seat assembly and become damaged. This may result in the airbag being inoperative during a collision, as well as the airbag being deployed unexpectedly without a collision.
