Nissan Leaf battery fire recall involves fast charging port

More than 29,000 Nissan Leaf vehicles should not be charged using Level 3 fast charging ports. October 4, 2024 — Owners of 2019-2020 Nissan LEAF electric vehicles are warned not to use Level 3 fast-charging ports due to the risk of battery fire. The Nissan LEAF battery recall includes more than 29,000 vehicles equipped with Level 3 fast charging ports. According to Nissan, the lithium-ion battery may overheat when using the LEAF fast-charging port. Engineers are still investigating the issue, but currently Nissan believes there may be excessive lithium deposits within the cells of the LEAF lithium-ion batteries. This causes increased resistance and fluctuations in the battery's state of charge. Using the Nissan LEAF Level 3 fast charging port can cause the battery to heat up quickly and cause a fire.
