No GM oil consumption class action in Missouri
Judge decertifies GM class action lawsuit over excessive oil consumption in 5.3-liter Vortecs July 2, 2024 — The Missouri General Motors oil consumption class action lawsuit is no longer a class action. Plaintiff Robert Riddell purchased a new 2012 Chevrolet Silverado equipped with a fourth-generation 5.3-liter V8 Vortec 5300 engine. According to the lawsuit, the Vortec 5300 engine had defective piston rings that caused excessive oil consumption. Without adequate oil, the engine will not be lubricated and components will not be protected from wear and damage. The plaintiffs claimed that the engines could fail completely and that GM had long known that the piston rings were defective. GM allegedly concealed the excessive oil consumption problem in its advertising, and the plaintiff claimed that he would not have purchased the truck or would have paid less if GM had disclosed the alleged excessive oil consumption problem. July 6, 2024 — Hans Von Ohain’s Tesla crash lawsuit should be dismissed because Tesla did not cause the crash or the 33-year-old Tesla employee’s death, it is claimed. Hans Von Ohain Tesla’s wrongful death lawsuit alleges the Colorado man died due to a defect in his 2021 Tesla Model 3’s Autopilot system. The May 16, 2022 Tesla crash also involved von Ohain's friend, Erik Rossiter, who was in the front passenger seat of the Model 3 and told investigators that Autopilot was engaged at the time of the crash.
