Lawsuit filed after Kia Carnival sliding door sensor recall
Kia Carnival sliding door sensors allegedly fail to prevent automatic doors from closing. October 26, 2024 — Kia Carnival sliding door sensor lawsuit claims power sliding doors were never fixed during previous recalls. West Virginia plaintiffs Rachel Langerhans and Andrew Langerhans filed a class action lawsuit alleging dangerous and defective power sliding doors on 2022-2023 Kia Carnivals. Most automotive class action lawsuits are not filed until a recall is announced or a formal government investigation is launched. The Kia Carnival lawsuit is a good example, as the lawsuit wasn't filed until after the minivans were both under investigation and recalled. According to the class action lawsuit, 2022-2023 Kia Carnival power sliding doors are equipped with a defective squeeze sensor that does not cause the power sliding door to automatically reverse. Kia Carnival sliding doors are supposed to automatically stop closing if an obstacle blocks the path, but the lawsuit says children or people could be injured if the sensors malfunction.…
F1: Lewis Hamilton to appoint new race engineer for Ferrari
Lewis Hamilton's long-time race engineer Pete Bonington has committed his future to Mercedes after being promoted to head of race engineering. Lewis Hamilton's departure from Mercedes for Ferrari at the end of the 2024 season marks the end of a storied partnership. A key question is what will become of his long-time race engineer, Pete "Bono" Bonington. After a decade of working together, during which he won numerous championships, Bonington has been promoted to head of race engineering at Mercedes. While Bonington will continue to work with Hamilton for the remainder of the 2024 season as he settles into his new role, his appointment also marks a significant shift within the team. Despite his new responsibilities, Bonington will remain involved in the engineering of the 2025 Mercedes drivers. His strong connection with the team dates back to his time at Honda in 2006, when he served as understudy to Andrew Shovlin and worked alongside Jenson Button. Hamilton's successor at Mercedes…
Hyundai Sonata recalled for flashing brake lights
Hyundai is recalling 38,000 Sonatas because their brake lights flash when driven above 30 mph. August 11, 2024 — Hyundai is recalling 2024 Sonata vehicles because a software error could cause the brake lights to flash. More than 38,300 Sonatas are affected. According to Hyundai: "When the vehicle speed exceeds 30 mph and the brakes are applied heavily, the brake lights on the vehicles involved may flash due to an incorrect brake light software selection during the manufacturing process." Not only would this cause confusion for drivers driving behind the Hyundai Sonata, but flashing brake lights are also a violation of federal safety standards. Hyundai launched an investigation into the flashing brake light issue in June after reports emerged about 2024 Sonatas in the U.S. In July, engineers discovered that rear brake light software designed for certain foreign markets was incorrectly applied to U.S.-spec vehicles. To date, Hyundai is not aware of any accidents, injuries or incidents related to flashing…
Hyundai recalls 2024 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid SUVs
Nearly 50,000 SUVs may have airbags that fail to deploy when needed or deploy for no apparent reason. August 1, 2024 — Hyundai is recalling nearly 50,000 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid SUVs because the vehicles' air bags may not deploy in a crash or the air bags may deploy suddenly for no apparent reason. The recalled 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) may have an issue with the main floor wiring harness. These floor harnesses can rub against the passenger side second row bench seat assembly and become damaged. This may result in the airbag being inoperative during a collision, as well as the airbag being deployed unexpectedly without a collision. In April, the rear side airbags of the 2024 Santa Fe in South Korea deployed, which caused Hyundai's concern. The automaker has launched investigations in South Korea and North America so that engineers can find out the problem. Hyundai determined that the…
