The largest trade body in transport, the London-based International Transport Chamber of Commerce (“ICS”), has expanded its annual flag state performance table to include four registries allegedly associated with evasion of sanctions, as it tends to address growing concerns about vessels seeking to bypass us, the EU and G7 restrictions. Some shipping companies seeking to bypass our/EU/G7 sanctions have reportedly used new additions, Cambodia, Eswatini, Gabon and Guinea Pigs, which has raised concerns about whether international maritime standards are properly implemented on the boards of these countries. This is because of growing concerns between us and EU officials about Russia and Iran, which are using aging and unsafe tankers involving sanctions.
