Volvo adjusts 2030 electric vehicle strategy, expands hybrid models
Volvo to continue selling petrol and hybrid cars after 2030Volvo has revised its strategy for a shift to electric vehicles, abandoning its previous plan to phase out gasoline and hybrid cars by 2030. The shift comes amid slowing growth in the electric vehicle market and shifting consumer demand.Volvo had initially outlined an ambitious goal of becoming an all-electric car company by 2030, but now the company has admitted that some mild-hybrid models may still be available after that point, depending on market conditions. The decision reflects a broader trend in the auto industry, where slower-than-expected adoption of electric vehicles and challenges such as infrastructure constraints are causing manufacturers to adjust their electrification timelines. The impact of Volvo's revised strategy on Australia is uncertain, as the company had planned to be fully electric by 2026.
