Ford Mustang GTD sets new lap record at Nürburgring

The Ford Mustang GTD became the fastest American car on the Nürburgring, beating the Dodge Viper ACR by 4.3 seconds. The Ford Mustang GTD has now become the fastest American production car to lap the legendary 20.8-kilometer Nordschleife circuit, beating the Dodge Viper ACR (7:01:30 minutes) and Lamborghini Aventador SuperVeloce (6:59.73 minutes). The Mustang GTD driven by Multimatic Motorsports driver Dirk Muller set an officially certified lap time of 6:57.685 on the famous track nicknamed the "Green Hell." According to Ford, the GTD is the sixth "standard" production car in the world to break the seven-minute mark. The road-legal Mustang GTD supercar borrows several design elements from the GT3 race car, such as carbon-ceramic brakes, active aerodynamics with a drag reduction system, semi-active suspension and a large supercharger.
