Maruti Suzuki Fronx sales exceed 200,000 units
Maruti Suzuki Fronx has crossed 2 lakh units in wholesale sales in India. Launched in April last year, the Baleno-based compact SUV sold through the company's premium Nexa dealerships and sold 1 lakh units in just 10 months. It reached 1.5 lakh units in 14 months and hit the 2 lakh units milestone in 17 months. According to SIAM wholesale data, Maruti Suzuki sold over 1.34 lakh units of the Fronx in FY2024, averaging 11,228 units per month in the first few years of sales. In the current fiscal, from April to August 2024, the SUV has sold 59,967 units, a year-on-year growth of 15%. That's an average of 11,993 units per month, or nearly 400 units per day. Maruti Suzuki, which has long exported Suzuki and Toyota-branded vehicles made in India to several countries, has started exporting the India-made Fronx to Japan. The SUV for the Japanese market will be equipped with a 1.5-liter petrol engine, just like the Fronx sold in other export markets; the model sold in India does not have this engine. While the SUV is available only with front-wheel drive option in other foreign markets, the model made in Japan will also offer Suzuki's AllGrip Select AWD technology, among other special amenities. Earlier this month, Japan began accepting bookings for the Fronx, and more than 700 units have been booked so far. The official launch date for the SUV is October 16, and deliveries are expected to start in the second half of October. The Indian-made Maruti Suzuki Fronx begins export to Japan;
Maruti Suzuki has started exporting the Made in India Fronx to Japan, with the first batch of over 1,600 units leaving from the Pipavav port in Gujarat. This is the second model from the company to be exported to Japan, after the Baleno in 2016. Notably, the Fronx will be the first SUV to be launched in Japan by Maruti Suzuki. It will go on sale under the Suzuki Motor Corporation name in autumn 2024. Details of the Fronx made for Japan are currently unknown, but the India-spec model is powered by either a 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine or a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine. The former produces 99bhp and 147.6Nm, while the latter produces 89bhp and 113Nm. The Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
