Unlike the Allante that Cadillac introduced decades ago, the XLR is a stunning design, designed by my friend Kip Wasenko, that takes the strongest parts of Cadillac's design language and puts them all into the design of a luxury GT car. The XLR has a very nice body and is based on the C6 Corvette chassis, so it has an excellent foundation. In fact, the XLR was built at the same time as the C6 Corvette at GM's plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The problem at the time was that it was priced very close to the Mercedes SL500 and Jaguar XK8, which led many buyers to choose the European car over the new American one.
