Chevrolet Equinox recalls electric vehicles over pedestrian alert

General Motors is recalling 7,600 electric vehicles that are supposed to make noise to protect pedestrians. December 18, 2024 — General Motors is recalling 2025 Chevrolet Equinox electric vehicles due to a problem with the pedestrian warning sound system. General Motors says the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV pedestrian warning audio system may not have the correct software calibration in more than 7,600 vehicles. This prevents exterior sound level issues when the vehicle is driven between 12.4 mph and 18.6 mph. Electric vehicles lack the common sound produced by internal combustion engines, so federal regulations require electric vehicles to emit sounds to pedestrians, cyclists and more. GM said pedestrians may not know whether an approaching vehicle is speeding up or slowing down. Dealers will update the software calibration in the body control module to correct the sound issue. Chevrolet Equinox EV recall letters are expected to be mailed out on January 27, 2025, but owners can contact Chevrolet at 800-222-1020. General…

Nissan Z recalled due to pop-up hood issue
Nissan Z recalled due to pop-up hood issue

Nissan is recalling Z cars because the pop-up hood may become deactivated. November 7, 2024 — Nissan Z is recalling nearly 4,800 vehicles in the United States and Canada due to a problem with the front bumper wiring harness. The recalled 2023-2024 Nissan Z vehicles are equipped with a connector for the right pedestrian detection sensor that may be reversed in the front bumper harness. This prevents the pop-up hood from activating. In January, Nissan technicians discovered an erroneous diagnostic trouble code (DTC) when a pedestrian collision detection sensor in the front bumper harness became disconnected. Engineers investigated and discovered the cause and how the problem caused delayed activation or deactivation of the pop-up hood. Nissan is not aware of any warranty claims or injuries related to the issue. Once the Nissan Z recall letter is mailed out on December 12, 2024, Nissan dealers will replace the front bumper wiring harness. Owners can call 800-867-7669 and inquire about Nissan Z…

Honda argues accidental braking lawsuit should be dismissed

The class action lawsuit alleges Honda Insight and Passport vehicles brake suddenly without warning. September 14, 2024 — A class action lawsuit over Honda vehicles' unexpected braking is proceeding through the courts, but Honda argues that the lawsuit doesn't qualify for another day in any court. California plaintiff Margaret Amaru and non-California plaintiffs Howard Barkan, James Khargie, Andrea Sivakova and Ricky Urena allege that all 2019-2022 Honda Insight and 2019-2022 Honda Passport vehicles are equipped with unsafe automatic emergency braking systems. According to the accidental braking lawsuit, the vehicle may suddenly brake despite there being no objects ahead on the road. The class-action lawsuit comes just weeks after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched an investigation into unintended braking issues in 2019 to 2022 Honda Passport and Insight vehicles. Honda calls its automatic emergency braking system a "Collision Mitigation Braking System." Honda describes the system as follows: "CMBS™ features a radar transmitter mounted on the front grille fascia that…

Need to tow trailer side underrun protection
Need to tow trailer side underrun protection

The petitioners asked, the law requires rear underrun trailer guards, so why not the sides? August 29, 2024 — The lack of federal law requiring all vans and semitrailers to be equipped with side underrun protection should be examined because of the dangers of driving under the side of a trailer, it was said. Federal law requires trailers to have underrun protection on the rear, but not on the sides. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that it has received a petition to investigate the impact of trailers that are not equipped with side underrun protection. In addition to vehicles that could hit and slide under the trailer, the federal petition for investigation also argues that pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists are also at risk. No specific equipment or trailer manufacturers are named in the petition. In 2021, safety regulators also received a request to investigate the impact of trailer side underrun guards and the lack of federal regulations. However,…
