Stellantis again delays the launch of Jeep, Dodge and Ram electric vehicles as
Despite the delays, Stellantis remains optimistic that its quality-focused electric vehicles will win over customers. CEO Carlos Tavares said rushing to launch electric vehicles could hurt durability and performance. Ram has delayed the launch of the 1500 REV from late 2024 to early 2025. Stellantis has delayed the launch of several key electric vehicles, choosing caution over haste as it looks to avoid the pitfall of rushing unproven models to market. Australia’s 10 cheapest new V8-powered cars
There was a time when the roar of eight-cylinder engines could be heard across Australia. In particular, a pair of quintessential Australian V8s dominate our roads: the Ford Falcon and the Holden Commodore. But those days are gone, and both of the above models no longer exist. Instead, the Australian car market is now dominated by SUVs and pickup trucks, which feature low-displacement turbocharged powertrains with six cylinders or less. While this won't bother many people (and it certainly hasn't stopped us from flocking to buy new cars), some enthusiast buyers still crave V8 power. Car slang you’ve probably never heard of
If you are in the same group Spend enough time with people and you will develop your own language with them. Even though you all speak English, the unique words you and your group members use may not be recognizable to outsiders. To car enthusiasts, a "10-footer" refers to a vehicle that looks good from 10 feet away but looks terrible when you get up close; to a baker, it might conjure up an epic line French bread. There are many sources of this word, such as beater, hooptie, jalopy, econobox, etc. I think we’ve all heard these terms before. The list below contains words that may not be commonly used. If you use any of these regularly, feel free to let me know in the comments section. jiki Photo courtesy of Jaguar About 20 years ago I heard about this method being used by a salesman at an exotic car dealership in San Antonio, Texas. Automakers that allow vehicles to undergo rigorous testing
even under normal circumstancesreporters’ vehicles passed by a lot. When I lived in Texas, I remember a guy who worked for News Fleet Management Services telling me that the two most commonly replaced items were windshields and tires. When a specialized vehicle travels as intended or beyond its usual test radius, the potential for significant damage increases significantly. Fortunately, some automakers understand the risks and are willing to take them to demonstrate what their products can do. Below, I've listed some specific examples where car companies have played it safe while testing their models. On Tracks: 2018 Ford Mustang GT, 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and 2019 Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack In 2017, I covered the ChumpCar World Series at Circuit of the Americas. One of the racers I interviewed for my story happened to own a small track south of Austin, Texas. I quickly got the bright idea and asked him if I could test the acceleration, handling…

Stellantis may start producing Ram 1500 trucks in Mexico
The automaker reached an agreement with the UAW not to build the 1500 in Mexico until U.S. production capacity is reached. It's unclear whether a gasoline-powered or electric version of the 1500 will be built south of the border. Stellantis' existing Saltillo plant currently produces heavy-duty Ram pickup trucks. Recall: Ram 1500 turn signals may not automatically cancel
About 130,000 Ram 1500 trucks are being recalled due to problems with the steering column control module. October 5, 2024 — A Ram 1500 turn signal problem has resulted in the recall of nearly 130,000 trucks because the turn signal may not cancel itself once the driver activates it. Not only is the recall of 2023-2024 Ram 1500 trucks a safety concern because leaving the turn signal on after turning is a violation of federal safety standards. According to U.S. federal safety regulations: "The turn signal operating unit must be able to cancel itself by turning the steering wheel and be able to be canceled by manually operating the control device." Ford learned of a possible problem with the Ram 1500's turn signals in February, and engineers knew the turn signal problems could be caused by a problem with the steering column control module. Chrysler expects to send out Ram 1500 recall letters on October 29, 2024, and dealers will…

Jeep, Ram dealers slam parent companies for ‘degrading’ brands
A US dealer group has launched a scathing critique of the parent company of Jeep, Ram, Dodge and Chrysler, accusing it of mismanaging its American brands. The United States was once the most profitable market for Stellantis — the parent company of the aforementioned brands following the 2021 merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and PSA Peugeot Citroen — but it has faced some major hurdles recently. Reuters Stellantis' operating income fell 40% in the first half of 2024, while Ram and Jeep sales in the United States fell by more than a third compared with 2019, the report said. Ram 1500 electric power steering issues lead to lawsuit
The electric power steering controls in 2013-2024 Ram 1500 trucks are said to be faulty. September 14, 2024 — Ram 1500 electric power steering issues sparked a class-action lawsuit from two Ram truck owners. The power steering systems on some Ram 1500 trucks have been recalled, and the federal government has launched an investigation in 2023. But the plaintiffs claim Fiat Chrysler concealed the steering problems from customers for a long time. The Ram 1500 Class Action Lawsuit includes: "Any person or entity that purchased or leased a 2013 to 2024 Ram 1500 vehicle from an authorized FCA dealer in the United States." The plaintiffs claim the electric steering failed without warning, leaving drivers without power steering assistance. The Ram 1500 trucks do not lose steering control, but without power steering, drivers will have to use more force to turn the steering wheel. Not only are the 2013-2024 model year trucks risky to drive, but owners also have to pay…
Loyalty to a company vs. brand agnosticism
Tragedy 1 One of the flaws of being human is that we don’t get to spend all of our lives with our beloved pets. We consider ourselves lucky if a dog or cat makes it to 15 (it’s much easier emotionally for people with turtles). The same is true for most cars. You may love your first car, but statistically, the chances of you still owning it decades later are slim. Cars are constantly wrecked, stolen, corroded, or ridiculously expensive to repair. This means that many of us own multiple cars in our lifetimes. There are two basic ways to complete this chain of ownership: you can stick with one brand, or you can mix it up and try new brands along the way. 1987 Audi 5000S for sale on ClassicCars.com I've seen both. When I was a teenager living outside of Austin, Texas, I would walk around my neighborhood. As a car enthusiast, I would always look at the…

2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10 with 1,700 miles
Today's Picks A 2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10 listed on ClassicCars.com by a private seller. Over the past few decades, American performance trucks have changed significantly in two ways. The basic concept is no longer what it once was. In the 1990s and 2000s, factory-modified trucks were single-cab, short-bed, rear-wheel-drive, and had plenty of power under the hood. Think back to the Chevy 454 SS and Ford F-150 SVT Lightning, especially the supercharged second-generation models. Now, Ram and Ford are making their performance pickups fly across the dunes at breakneck speeds. The Blue Oval's current Lightning has astonishing acceleration...thanks to all-electric power. And as time goes by, super trucks are getting higher and higher in power levels. Now that the Ram 1500 TRX is gone, the 720-horsepower Ford Raptor R is the apex predator. As capable as these new pickups are, they can't match the insanity of the 2004-2006 Dodge Ram SRT-10. The same year Ford discontinued the supercharged F-150 SVT…
Ram air suspension class action lawsuit dismissed
Ram 1500 owner says air suspension problem cost him nearly $3,000. July 15, 2024 — Ram air suspension class action lawsuit dismissed because truck owners waited too long. In January 2017, New Jersey plaintiff Daniel Paolucci purchased a 2017 RAM 1500 Rebel equipped with an air suspension system. Paolucci said the problems with the air suspension system began in October 2021, beginning with "occasional, gradual failures" of the truck's suspension. He claims the air suspension system failed again in December 2021, so the plaintiff took his Ram truck to a dealer but was allegedly told a final diagnosis would take at least two weeks. According to the Ram class action lawsuit, despite the plaintiffs' numerous attempts to reset the air suspension, by January 2022, the air suspension simply wasn't working. The plaintiff claimed the dealer told him it would cost $3,725 to repair the air suspension. "The technician explained that the defect was likely caused by a known issue with…

July 16, 2024 — A Ram diesel emissions class action lawsuit filed against some owners of Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 trucks equipped with Cummins diesel engines has received preliminary approval. Chrysler and Cummins are both named as defendants in a diesel emissions class action lawsuit. Chrysler denied all allegations in the class action lawsuit, but decided to settle after seven years of court battles due to the "substantial expense, inconvenience, burden and disruption caused by continued litigation." Arizona files lawsuit over Ram 2500 and 3500 diesel vehicles
Arizona's attorney general filed a lawsuit alleging that Ram trucks were equipped with illegal emissions devices. July 20, 2024 — Arizona's attorney general has filed a lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler and engine maker Cummins, accusing the companies of selling illegal Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 diesel trucks to more than 23,600 Arizona residents. Attorney General Kris Mayes alleges that Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 trucks built from 2013 to 2019 were equipped with 6.7-liter engines and had illegal emissions suppression devices installed.
