It's not exactly the surprise you want from an SUV. A recall report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) highlights a critical issue with the hydraulic control unit (HCU) and anti-lock braking system (ABS) modules. In some cases, the module misreads the pressure in the main brake circuit, allowing the vehicle to start and move out of a…
VW, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche profits at serious risk
Analysts believe Trump's proposed tariffs could cost German brands more than 10% of operating profits go through Chris Chilton 3 hours ago If President-elect Trump imposes new import tariffs, profits for Germany's big automakers could be significantly eroded. Analysts told Handelsblatt that Volkswagen, BMW and Mercedes could lose more than 10% of operating profits. Audi and Porsche are in a precarious position because, unlike other brands, they do not have factories within the United States. It’s not just Chinese companies that are bracing for the impact of any import tariffs that Donald Trump might introduce during his presidency. Experts warn that German carmakers should be prepared to lose more than 10% of current operating profits. Although Trump has not yet taken office, let alone imposed any tariffs, he has seriously talked about doing so, and foreign automakers cannot afford to view this as an idle threat. According to Marklines, German brands alone export 583,000 vehicles from Europe to the United…

The Jeep lawsuit was filed two months after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched an investigation into 2021-2023 Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler vehicles. According to safety regulators, the Jeep may have a power steering pump problem that could cause an engine bay fire. Jeep owners reported a fire in the passenger side engine compartment where the power steering pump electrical connector is located. NHTSA also said most of the fires occurred when Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators were shut down. The Jeep class action lawsuit alleges that Chrysler knew or should have known about the fire risk before NHTSA launched its investigation. The class action lawsuit also accuses FCA of failing…

We also encourage owners not to keep their electric vehicles with a range below 70 miles. The next generation Chevrolet Bolt is almost here, but General Motors can't seem to escape the shadow of the model's troubled past. The automaker just recalled old Bolts again, a reminder that the troubles with its early electric vehicle experiments are far from over. var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:()}; adpushup.que.push(function() { if (adpushup.config.platform !== "DESKTOP") { adpushup.triggerAd("4d84e4c9 -9937-4f84-82c0-c94544ee6f2a"); } else{ adpushup.triggerAd("6a782b01-facb-45f3-a88f-ddf1b1f97657"); You'll no doubt remember that three years ago, General Motors recalled more than 140,000 Bolts in the United States because they posed a risk of catching fire. The issue can be traced to an issue with the battery pack, which comes from LG. Now, General Motors has revealed that some 2020-2022…

Taycan drivers receive no advance warning if there is a problem with the battery. Porsche has been monitoring the Taycan due to previous recalls and decided in September that a recall was needed. Porsche said final fixes to the battery fire risk could occur in the first quarter of 2025. Porsche dealers will install diagnostic software and monitor vehicle data, contacting Taycan owners if needed. Mini Cooper EV recalled over battery fire risk
Mini has announced a recall of 12,535 Cooper electric cars due to a fire risk. The affected models were manufactured between March 21, 2019 and January 25, 2024. A simple software update could fix this problem. More than 12,500 Mini Cooper SE electric cars have been recalled because their high-voltage batteries could short-circuit and catch fire. Obviously, this recall shouldn't be ignored by owners. var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:()}; adpushup.que.push(function() { if (adpushup.config.platform !== "DESKTOP"){ adpushup.triggerAd("4d84e4c9 -9937-4f84-82c0-c94544ee6f2a"); } else{ adpushup.triggerAd("6a782b01-facb-45f3-a88f-ddf1b1f97657"); } }); The automaker says a high-voltage battery or high-voltage system failure could cause a short circuit, which could lead to overheating and fire even when the vehicle is not running. Oddly, this doesn't appear to be a common problem, as the document says battery failure "can occur for a variety of reasons." ‘New’ best practice guidance for addressing transfer risk
By Shawna Karajic, Export Solutions Inc. In July of this year, the U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) recently issued guidance on addressing export diversion risk. (Diversion risk refers to the possibility that items, technology, or services could be redirected or transferred to unauthorized end users or end uses, which could violate export control laws and regulations). The guidance outlines various actions BIS takes to notify industry of entities that present a diversion risk, beyond those identified on public screening lists such as the Entity List. It includes mechanisms such as “supplier list” letters, program guardian requests, red flag letters, and “as-made-known” letters. These tools help industry more effectively screen their customers and transactions to protect U.S. national security by identifying entities that may be diverting export-controlled items to restricted end-uses/users and countries of concern such as Russia. Additionally, BIS recommends that exporters of Common High Priority List (CHPL) items use the Trade Integrity Program (TIP) online resource for…

Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon recalled over fire risk
General Motors is recalling 8,600 trucks due to a fuel pump problem that can cause fuel leaks. July 4, 2024 — More than 8,600 General Motors trucks are at risk of fire due to fuel pump problems that cause fuel leaks. The recalled 2024 Chevrolet Colorado and 2024 GMC Canyon trucks are equipped with a locking ring that secures the fuel pump to the fuel tank assembly, but it may not be fully locked during assembly. This could result in a fuel leak in a crash, which could cause a fire. In March, the fuel tank supplier contacted GM after discovering that the tank locking ring was not fully tightened. “The supplier determined that during production between February 19, 2024 and March 18, 2024, the machine used to engage the lock ring was misaligned, which may have caused the lock ring to partially engage.” — General Motors Recall letters for the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon are expected to be…
