Not recalling 50 million ARC airbag inflators for now
Not recalling 50 million ARC airbag inflators for now

Safety regulators had previously hoped to recall 50 million airbag inflators following deaths/injuries. December 20, 2024 — Exploding air bag inflators are still affecting automakers, vehicles, occupants and safety regulators who are trying to determine whether millions of inflators and vehicles should be recalled. The entire ordeal involves ARC Automotive, Delphi Automotive and a federal safety investigation launched in 2015 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The investigation was upgraded in 2016 after a Canadian woman died when a 2009 Hyundai Elantra ARC airbag inflator ruptured. NHTSA estimates there are more than 50 million suspect air bag inflators in vehicles produced by 13 automakers. Safety regulators said in 2023 that a recall should be considered due to the dangers posed by the inflators. This has caused concern among airbag inflator manufacturers and automakers. GM did announce a recall of about 1 million vehicles in May 2023, but ARC automatically rejected any talk of a recall. All companies agree that…

Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 and GLE 450 recalled due to airbags

Mercedes is recalling 12,000 GLE-Class vehicles to fix front airbag issues. October 6, 2024 — Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 and GLE 450 front airbags may not deploy properly because the front accelerometer sensor harness may not be routed correctly. The approximately 12,000 2021-2022 Mercedes GLE 350 and 2021-2022 Mercedes GLE 450 vehicles affected by this recall may require rewiring. "In the event of a frontal collision, the sensor's wiring harness may be damaged and may trigger dual-stage frontal airbag deployment rather than single-stage deployment." — Benz This could cause the airbag to injure the occupants rather than protect them. Mercedes says it will not issue warnings of problems before an accident occurs. Mercedes reviewed internal crash tests conducted in 2021 that resulted in dual-stage airbag deployment, rather than single-stage deployment. Engineers investigated the erroneous test results and determined that the wiring harness leading to the airbag acceleration sensor was incorrectly routed in the target vehicle. More than 1,200 of the recalled…

Fiat 124 Spider recalled due to powerful front airbags
Fiat 124 Spider recalled due to powerful front airbags

More than 17,000 vehicles are equipped with front airbags that can harm occupants. October 1, 2024 — A recall has been announced for the Fiat 124 Spider because the front airbags may injure occupants rather than protect them. The recall involves the 2017-2020 Fiat 124 Spider, which has a software error in the airbag control module. This could cause the front airbags to deploy with too much force during a collision. About 17,400 vehicles are being recalled not only because the problem is dangerous, but also because they violate federal safety standards regarding neck injuries. Chrysler learned about the airbag control module problem from Mazda in July. In a collision, dual-stage airbag deployment may occur instead of the intended single-stage airbag deployment. About 1,600 Fiat 124 Spider vehicles are being recalled in Canada. Once the recall letter is mailed on November 7, 2024, Fiat Chrysler dealers will update the air bag control module software. Fiat 124 Spider owners can call…

Ford Mustang Mach-E Travels 569 Miles On Single Charge
Ford Mustang Mach-E can go 569 miles on a single charge

The distance reportedly sets a new Guinness World Record, although there appear to be some caveats The Ford Mustang Mach-E can reportedly travel 569.64 miles on a single charge. This crossover is not original as it comes with small 18-inch wheels wrapped in low-rolling-resistance tires. Bridgestone and Webfleet are claiming a new Guinness World Record for the longest distance travelled by an electric vehicle on a single charge. Specifically, they say a team drove a Ford Mustang Mach-E for 569.64 miles (916.74 km). This reportedly breaks the previous record of 563.97 miles (907.62 km), but Guinness World Records disagrees as their website lists the "greatest distance traveled on a single charge (non-solar) by an electric vehicle" as 1,599.27 miles (2,573.79 km). The record was set in 2023 by a car called muc022, but it was not a production electric car. Instead, it was "built by 70 students over 2 years and modified by 10 students over an additional year." Dual vs. Single Zone Vehicle Climate Control
Dual vs. Single Zone Vehicle Climate Control

What are the Drawbacks to Dual-Zone Climate Control Systems? One of the biggest drawbacks to a dual-zone system is cost. Generally speaking, dual-zone systems are more expensive than single-zone systems. If you’re purchasing a new car, the cost difference may not be significant, but if you’re purchasing a used car, the price difference between single-zone and dual-zone systems can be substantial. So, if cost is a major factor in your decision, it’s worth considering whether the added cost of a dual-zone system is worth it to you. Another potential downside to dual-zone systems is complexity. Dual-zone systems are more complex than single-zone systems, which means they can be more difficult and expensive to repair if something goes wrong. The additional components and sensors required for dual-zone systems can also add weight to the car, which can impact fuel efficiency. So, if you’re someone who prioritizes simplicity and ease of maintenance, a single-zone system may be a better option for you.…
