Tesla Model 3 named least reliable electric car in used car tests
Reliability testing of new German electric vehicles (EVs) reveals Tesla Model 3 It is the worst-performing model in the country, with scores of them failing their first inspections three years after they hit the road. Once a car has been on German roads for three years, the country's Technischer Überwachungsverein (abbreviated as TÜV, which translates as Technical Inspection Association) conducts a comprehensive inspection every 24 months to certify its roadworthiness. The organization inspects every part of the vehicle, including brakes, steering, suspension, lights and chassis. TÜV's 2025 annual report includes 10 electric vehicles (EVs) for the first time, covering tests conducted between July 2023 and June 2024. The report found that 14.2% of Model 3s failed their first inspection three years later, with "significant defects" in suspension and braking components.
