The Volkswagen Tiguan oil consumption lawsuit alleges that owners must constantly add oil to the engine. January 10, 2025 — The Volkswagen Tiguan’s fuel consumption is said to be too high, forcing owners of the 2022-2023 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV to constantly add oil to the engine. Maryland plaintiff Calvin Westlund owns a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line Black Edition that allegedly consumes excessive fuel. The plaintiff stated that he took his Tiguan to the dealer on December 10, 2024, and even though it was the fourth or fifth time he had refueled in the past month, the dealer told him this was "normal" . The next day, the VW dealer filled up his Tiguan and began the first phase of VW's fuel consumption test, which is currently underway. Although the dealer was conducting fuel consumption testing and had not yet completed it, the plaintiff claimed, "the dealer was unable to provide plaintiff with appropriate assistance or remedies."
