Bharat NCAP has announced the crash test safety ratings of a range of Tata models, including the Nexon ICE (internal combustion engine), Curvv ICE and Curvv EV. All three vehicles received a five-star safety rating, with varying scores for adult and child occupant protection. In our market, the ICE Nexon SUV retails at Rs 8 lakh while the Curvv retails at Rs 10 lakh. On the other hand, Curvv EV is priced at Rs 17.49 lakh. These are starting and ex-showroom prices. Let’s take a closer look at these BNCAP results for Tata Motors.
Tata Nexon ICE: Crash test ratings explained
The Nexon ICE scored 29.41 points (out of 32 points) for adult occupant protection. In the frontal-offset deformable-barrier crash evaluation, the SUV provided adequate head and neck support for the driver and passengers. In this test, it received a score of 14.65 out of 16, indicating that the driver’s chest is adequately shielded.
In the side movable guardrail test, protection of the driver’s head and abdomen was deemed satisfactory, while protection of the chest was deemed adequate. In this review, this SUV scored 14.76 points (out of 16 points). In addition, during the side stick test, the driver’s head, chest, abdomen and pelvis were fully covered.

In terms of child occupant protection, Tata’s compact SUV scored 22.83 points (out of 29 points). The 18-month-old had a dynamic score of 4 out of 4 for side protection and a score of 7 out of 8 for frontal protection. The dynamic scores of 3-year-old children are 7.83 points (out of 8 points) and 4 points (out of 4 points).
Tata Curvv ICE: Crash test ratings explained
In the adult occupant protection category, the ICE version of the Curvv SUV Coupe scored 29.50 points (out of 32 points). In frontal offset deformation crash evaluations, it provided good head, neck and chest protection for the driver and passengers. However, the driver’s left leg protection was described as marginal, resulting in an overall rating of 14.65 out of 16 points. In the side removable guardrail evaluation, protection for the driver’s head and abdomen was rated good, but the chest was deemed adequate. In this test, Curvv scored 14.85 points (out of 16 points). In the side stick test, the driver’s head, chest, abdomen and pelvis all showed adequate protection.
The Curvv achieved an overall score of 22.66 out of 29 in the child occupant protection test. The 18-month-old received a dynamic score of 4 out of 4 for side protection and a score of 7.07 out of 8 for frontal protection. On the other hand, the dynamic scores of 3-year-old children were 4 points (out of 4 points) and 7.59 points (out of 8 points).
Tata Curvv EV: Crash test ratings explained
The electric Curvv scored 30.81 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection. It provides good head, neck and chest protection for the driver and co-driver. However, left leg protection for the driver and co-driver was deemed adequate. In this evaluation, it scored 15.66 out of 16 points.
In the side removable guardrail test, the SUV Coupe scored 15.15 out of 16 points. The driver’s head and abdomen are well protected, although the chest is considered adequate. In addition, in the side bar test, the driver’s head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis were well protected.

In terms of child occupant protection, Curvv EV scored 44.83 points (out of 49 points). For children aged 18 months, the dynamic scores for front and side protection were 8 out of 8 and 4 out of 4 respectively. In comparison, the dynamic scores for 3-year-olds were 7.83 out of 8 and 4 out of 4 respectively.
