Tata Curvv EV vs MG ZS EV Specifications Comparison: Which is Better?

After a long wait, Tata Motors has finally launched the Curvv EV in India at an entry price of Rs 17.49 lakh (ex-showroom). This electric SUV Coupe competes closely with the MG ZS EV, which starts at Rs 18.98 lakh (ex-showroom). The former has two battery options, while the latter has only one battery pack. We compare Tata’s first mass-market SUV Coupe with MG Motors to see which one is better suited for potential EV buyers in India.

Tata Curvv EV vs MG ZS EV: Batteries, Charging

The Curvv EV is based on the Acti.ev platform and is available in 45kWh and 55kWh battery options. The car is powered by a liquid-cooled permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMS), which produces 165bhp and 148bhp in the 55kWh and 45kWh versions respectively. The torque (215Nm) is the same for both units. The smaller battery has a range of 502 km, while the larger battery has a range of 585 km. However, in real-world conditions, the expected ranges for the two units are 350 km and 425 km respectively. The electric car has a top speed of 160 km/h. With a 45kWh battery, the Curvv EV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 9 seconds. On the other hand, the 55kWh version completes the same distance in 8.6 seconds.

This electric SUV Coupe supports 1.2C fast charging rate, using a 70kW or higher DC charger, you can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in 40 minutes. According to the company, the range can reach 150 kilometers with just 15 minutes of charging.

Unlike Tata Motors, the MG ZS EV uses a single 50.3kWh lithium-ion battery and electric motor that delivers more power and torque of 174bhp and 280Nm. This SUV has a higher range than the Curvv 45kWh version (461 km), but is slower than the top-of-the-line 55kWh version. Using a 7.4 kW AC charger, the MG electric SUV can be fully charged from 0% to 100% in about 9 hours. However, using a 50 kW DC fast charger, it can be charged to 80% in just 60 minutes.

Both the variants are equipped with features like ADAS and panoramic sunroof. Starting from Curvv, the EV comes with a powered tailgate with gesture control, front ventilated seats and a JBL sound system. The top-spec variant gets a 12.29-inch touchscreen infotainment system. In comparison, the base and mid-spec variants get 7.0-inch and 10.24-inch systems respectively. Also, the top and mid-spec variants get a 10.24-inch instrument cluster, while the lowest-spec variant gets a 7.0-inch TFT instrument cluster. Tata cars come with six airbags, ESP and driver drowsiness alert as standard, but the top-spec variants benefit from Level 2 ADAS features.

The MG ZS EV, on the other hand, is equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a fully digital instrument panel with an integrated 7.0-inch LCD screen, an air purifier, rear air-conditioning vents, an electric parking brake, cruise control and wireless charging. It also comes with electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera and six airbags as standard.

In terms of size, the MG EV is 13mm longer and 12mm taller than the Curvv EV. The wheelbase is also 25mm longer. However, the width of both models is almost the same.

Tata Curvv EV vs MG ZS EV: Price

The Creative, Accomplished and Accomplished +S variants of the Curvv EV 45kWh are priced at Rs 17.49 lakh, Rs 18.49 lakh and Rs 19.29 lakh respectively. The long-range Accomplished variant is priced at Rs 19.25 lakh, while the Accomplished +S and Empowered+ variants are priced at Rs 19.99 lakh and Rs 21.25 lakh respectively. On the other hand, the top-of-the-line Empowered + A variant is priced at Rs 21.99 lakh.

In comparison, the MG ZS EV Executive, Excite Pro, Exclusive Plus, Exclusive Plus Ivory, Essence and Essence Ivory are priced at Rs 18.98 lakh, Rs 19.98 lakh, Rs 24.23 lakh, Rs 24.44 lakh, Rs 25.23 lakh and Rs 25.44 lakh respectively. While the MG ZS EV offers more torque and power, the Tata Curvv EV appears to be a more reasonably priced model with multiple battery options.
