Harrier EV is scheduled to be launched before the end of this financial year, marking a significant addition to Tata’s electric vehicle line-up

Tata Motors had recently confirmed that the Harrier EV will be launched in India before the end of this fiscal year. Meanwhile, the Sierra EV and Avinya are expected to be released in the next fiscal year, but the exact launch schedule remains under wraps. A combustion engine version of the Sierra is expected to debut shortly after the electric version.

Sierra ICE could debut as early as the second half of 2025. Tata may adopt a strategy similar to the Curvv series, launching the EV version first and then the ICE version. While official specifications are yet to be revealed, the Sierra ICE is likely to be powered by the familiar 2.0L four-cylinder diesel engine that powers the Harrier and Safari.

The turbodiesel engine delivers a maximum power of 170 PS and a peak torque of 350 Nm, mated to a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Additionally, Tata Motors may offer the new 1.5L TGDi turbocharged petrol engine as an option. The possibility of a 4×4 configuration cannot be ruled out, adding to the Sierra ICE’s versatility and appeal.

The next-generation Sierra has been shown off multiple times, and the production version remains true to concept design cues. Meanwhile, the Harrier EV made its concept debut at the Auto Expo 2023 and later showed a near-production version at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024. The Harrier EV will be available in single-motor and dual-motor configurations with a 4WD setup to enhance its performance off-road potential.

In addition, the upcoming zero-emission model can travel more than 500 kilometers on a single charge. To strengthen its electric vehicle portfolio, Tata Motors signed a memorandum of understanding with Jaguar Land Rover in late 2023. The partnership enables Tata to leverage Jaguar Land Rover’s electrified modular architecture platform, including advanced electrical systems, electric propulsion, battery technology and manufacturing expertise.

These resources will play a key role in shaping Tata’s premium electric vehicle lineup, especially the Avinya series. The company is also working on equipping its upcoming electric vehicles with high-energy-density batteries designed to provide faster charging times and improve overall performance.
