The local carmaker’s subcompact SUV Tata Punch is expected to become India’s best-selling car by 2024, according to data from Jato Dynamics. Since its launch, the micro-SUV has experienced a combined annual growth rate of 73%, making it the fastest car to achieve this milestone. By the end of this year, Punch’s total sales are likely to touch 200,678 units, surpassing Maruti WagonR’s sales of 187,225 units. It also outsold cars like Maruti Swift, Baleno, Fronx, Brezza, Ertiga, Hyundai Creta, and its own older brother Nexon.
Sales have grown significantly since launch
Tata Punch was first launched in October 2021 with four roles: Pure, Adventure, Achievement and Creative. It received an overwhelming response from buyers right from the start, allowing it to achieve the 100,000-unit production milestone within 10 months of its launch. By May 2023, these sales figures doubled, and by October 2024, cumulative sales reached 458,000 vehicles.
Upcoming facelift in 2025
So far, apart from minor feature upgrades, the mini-SUV has not undergone any major facelift or replacement. However, media reports claim that the automaker plans to launch a facelifted version of the Punch in 2025 with significant interior and exterior changes. The new 2025 Tata Punch facelift is expected to get slight styling improvements and add a host of new features while retaining the existing engine setup.

The Tata Punch has always been popular for its unique styling, offering hatchback-like agility and SUV-like stance. Additionally, its 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP is one of the major contributors to its popularity and high sales. To attract buyers, Tata is offering multiple variants and customization packages for this micro SUV. The Punch offers excellent value for money compared to its main rivals, appealing to budget-conscious SUV buyers.
