Just recently, the Tata Punch was announced as the best-selling car in the country in 2024 across all categories. This is an incredible achievement as it breaks Maruti Suzuki’s 40-year-old streak. Now, Tata Punch has reached another milestone worth celebrating, with production just reaching 500,000 units since its inception.
Tata Punch reaches $500,000 milestone
The Tata Punch has been a successful car since its launch. It has huge sales potential and has proven itself in 2024. The company is happy to announce that Tata Punch has reached the 500,000 unit sales milestone and hopes to reach the 1 million unit mark earlier before crossing the 500,000 unit mark.
Even though the Punch is still in its first-generation non-facelift look, the company has been updating the Punch regularly to keep it relevant. Even the Punch EV received a good response when it was first launched a year ago. Several special editions have also been introduced in the mix to keep sales going.
Talking about sales, Punch has become a rock star for Tata Motors and in 2024, Punch sales even surpassed Tata Nexon to become the best-selling car and SUV in India. Nexon proudly holds this title for the third consecutive year.
Why does Punch sell so well?
For 2024, Tata has given the Punch’s interior a meaningful update, and it’s truly stunning. The company offers a larger 10.25-inch freestanding infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, rear AC vents, a more affordable sunroof variant and a host of more useful features.
Proving its versatility, the Tata Punch is available in three powertrain options – petrol, petrol + CNG and electric. Tata offers twin-cylinder technology with Punch i-CNG, which does not impact on luggage space as both cylinders are neatly hidden under the compartment, which is significantly better than a single-cylinder setup.
The Punch EV increases the premium rate as its interior is almost identical to the Nexon and comes with the new Acti.ev platform with an increased performance ceiling. Punch also has 5-star crash safety (Punch ICE gets 5 stars from Global NCAP, Punch EV gets 5 stars from Bharat NCAP) credibility, which its direct rivals don’t have.
The combination of all these has become the perfect formula to attract the Indian audience. There are rumors that Tata Motors is preparing a facelift of the Punch. A few test mules were also spotted, suggesting they could be facelifted cars being tested. The release schedule has not been officially confirmed, but 2025 or early 2026 seems like a perfect year.
