The Tata Sierra is one of the long-awaited new car launches this year. The SUV was publicly unveiled in its production-ready form at the Bharat Mobility Fair in January this year and is currently undergoing extensive testing. The automaker has confirmed it will introduce into the mountains in the second half of 2025 with ice (internal combustion engine) and electric ice (internal combustion engine) and electric fuel options. However, the exact specifications are yet to be revealed. Let’s take a look at the engine details we know so far.
Gasoline and Deisel specifications:
The ice-powered Tatasella can be provided with 1.5-liter turbo petrol and 2.0-liter diesel engines, which pushes out 170PS of maximum power at 260nm at 280nm and 118ps respectively. A 6-speed manual transmission may be standard, as well as an optional 7-speed DCT automatic transmission.

The gasoline engine explained:
Tata’s new 1.5-liter 4-cylinder TGDI petrol engine meets BS6 Phase II emission standards and can operate on E20 fuel. The automaker revealed that the engine has an all-aluminum construction and benefits from several advanced technologies, including variable oil pumps, dual cam phases and integrated exhaust manifolds. It features a water-cooled variable geometry turbocharger that ensures better torque at lower revs. Tata claims its new TGDI engine offers better fuel efficiency and performance than other existing engines.
2 different platforms:
Tata Sierra Ice will be based on the Atlas platform, while Sierra EV will be built on the Gen2 EV architecture. Tata’s Gen2 Architecture (Activi.ev) has optimized the battery pack design to support multiple drivetrain systems (AWD, RWD and FWD). Additionally, it is said to have flat floors and maximum cabin space and storage areas without transmission tunnels.
Battery and range:
The electric version of the SUV may have a 60kWh battery pack (higher trim) that is about 500 kilometers per charge. It will get a dual-sport AWD setup. The lower trim also provides a smaller battery pack.
