Although both Tiago and Tigor have ICE and EV versions, overall sales are still lower than their respective pure ICE rivals
The Tiago and Tigor were launched in 2016 and are about to receive an update. Both cars share the same X1 platform, which is a derivative of the platform used by the Tata Indica (1998-2018). The last major update for Tiago and Tigor was in 2020.
New Tiago, Tigor facelift – sportier appearance, new equipment
In an investor presentation, Tata Motors confirmed that the Tiago and Tigor will get a mid-life update. As competitors’ products are better equipped and sales have been affected, Tata is expected to launch facelifted versions of Tiago and Tigor as soon as possible. It is expected to launch in 2025. Tiago and Tigor cosmetic products will mainly focus on cosmetic modifications, with more devices added based on industry trends.
One can expect a new set of lighting elements both front and rear. The grille and front and rear bumpers are also expected to get a new look. The new design of the alloy wheels improves the side profile. Some new color options could also be introduced. Inside, the existing 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system can be upgraded to a larger unit. This is possible with the top versions of the Tiago and Tigor facelifts. Top models also get a wireless charger and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
There’s also room for upgrades in the cockpit area, including the instrument panel and center console. New interior themes can be introduced along with updated interiors. Although the Tiago and Tigor use older platforms, the equipment list is quite long. Some of the key features already available include fully automatic temperature control, cooled glovebox, Type-C charger and auto-folding ORVM with welcome feature. There’s cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, steering-mounted audio and phone controls and keyless entry with push-button start.
NCAP 4 Star Safety
The facelifted Tiago and Tigor will continue to benefit from their Global NCAP 4-star safety rating. Safety kit is likely to be enhanced, with six airbags standard on all models. Safety features available on current models include dual airbags, corner stability control, rear parking assist sensors and display, follow me home lights, rear camera with dynamic guidance and a tire pressure monitoring system.
The next generation Tiago and Tigor are being planned
Since the platform is quite old, it would be better to move to the next-gen version. There are reports that Tata may be evaluating the possibility of launching the next-generation Tiago and Tigor. However, there is no official confirmation yet. Assuming the new models get a green signal, the new generation Tiago and Tigor may be launched in 2026-2027.
Rivals of Tata Tiago include Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Grand i10. Tigor competes with the likes of Maruti Dzire and Honda Amaze. Both Swift and Dzire will be updated in 2024. Honda Amaze will launch the third generation Avatar in 2025. Hyundai Grand i10 Nios gets updated in 2023.
