You might think that if anyone made the most American of cars, it would be the all-stars of apple pie and bald eagles—Ford and General Motors. But no, they were no longer outdone. Of all the companies, the real MVP of red, white and blue car pride is Tesla. Yes, the tech bro magnet that brings you memes, stock market drama, and cars with questionable panel gaps is also the most “Made in America” brand by a long shot.
This isn’t the first time we’ve learned how popular American-made Tesla electric vehicles are. As early as June, the Tesla Model 3 topped the list published by Cars.com. The latest rankings, from American University’s Kogod School of Business, identify the 25 American-made vehicles with the most American-made content.

There’s a catch with Tesla’s “Made in America” claim
Despite the weight of Tesla’s chest, there were wrinkles. Frank DuBois, the study’s author, said Tesla’s domestic dominance is not unassailable. He told KBB that Tesla still relies on a sizeable portion of Chinese components, especially motors and batteries, and could be affected by new tariffs introduced by the next Trump administration.
He pointed out that if you exclude the motor and battery of the second-place Model 3 Long Range, it “has 40% Chinese content.” Likewise, Cybertruck accounts for 20%, with Chinese parts often found in “seats, dashboard components, etc.,” he explained.
“Automotive industry executives want to see stable trade relationships with our key trading partners,” DuBois added. But with Trump’s tariff threats and potential retaliation, “we’re going to see a period of real instability,” he said.
