Tesla owners are angry at Elon Musk’s political turn and it seems many of them have had enough. This is based on new data, which shows a surge in transactions.

Quoting Edmunds data, Reuters “Tesla cars with models or newer 2017 account for 1.4% of all vehicles traded,” the report said. That was 0.4% last year, marking a significant increase.

CNBC noted that this is Tesla’s record level of vehicles for other brands. So what is behind the increase? There may be a number of factors at play, including new competitors in the electric vehicle space.

Of course, there is no doubt that Musk’s close relationship with President Trump and his de facto leader as the government’s efficiency department also play a role. Sheryl Crow famously abandoned Tesla and said, “Sometimes you have to decide who you are willing to align with.”

The attack on Tesla dealerships has been attracting headlines, with U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi recently saying: “If you join the wave of family terrorism against Tesla’s property, the Justice Department will put you behind.” However, Tesla owners are also targeted by hatred.

Several owners reported being flipped or sworn in in other cases, while other cases were even more serious. These involve actual vandalism, ranging from the vehicle being critical to the onset of fire.

Regardless of what is behind this shift, Jessica Caldwell of Edmunds said, “The change in Tesla’s consumer sentiment could create opportunities for traditional automakers and EV startups to gain the foundation.” Essentially, people who are shutting down can replace their electric cars with competitors’ models, which may be good news for the latter, but obviously not Tesla, which is not the best shape when it comes to sales.
