Tesla’s charging port is due to Musk’s

  • Lucid’s CEO claims Tesla’s toll port design was influenced by Musk’s taxi garage layout.
  • If true, this means there are several brands that end up moving their charging ports for the same reason.
  • Gravity reflects Tesla’s position, proving that Musk’s choice still has lasting effects.

You might think the location of the electric vehicle charging port will not cause a heated debate. But the location of the charging port proved to be more than just a matter of convenience. In fact, this is an important design decision that can have a real impact on the user experience. No, it’s not just some small footnotes in the electric car world.

Now, let’s back up for a moment. Internal combustion vehicles are everywhere from refueling infrastructure. It doesn’t matter where the gas cap sits, because the air pumps are everywhere, it takes very little time to refuel, and the hose is long enough to reach from almost any angle. But electric cars won’t benefit from the same luxury goods.

Fields in charge ports

However, despite how critical this seemingly small detail is, automakers seem to have placed charging ports everywhere. Some are in front, some are in the back; some are even standing on the side. Of course, Tesla has become the de facto standard, and most competitors end up following the example. And if what Peter Rawlinson said is true, it’s almost for interesting reasons.

Rawlinson is CEO of Lucid, one of many aspiring Tesla challengers that have emerged in recent years. Prior to taking the position, he worked at Tesla under Elon Musk, and the two had different ideas about the location of the charger port. Apparently, Rollinson believes it should be on the front door and behind the wheels of the car driver’s side. However, Musk has a completely different vision, which is inspired by the layout of the garage he rented in Bell Air.

In an interview PC MAGRawlinson claimed: “He (Musk) said it wasn’t suitable for his garage layout in Bell air. So I (Rollinson) said: “Well, what do you want?” What is the right layout for your Bel Air garage? He said that would be in the rear because he could cross the cable. He is renting the property and doesn’t even own the place, but due to the layout of the garage he rented in Bel Air, we put the charge port on the model to the left! ”

If Rawlinson’s story is true, Tesla’s charging port is exactly what they do, as one is worried about avoiding skipping cables in a Bel Air garage he doesn’t even have. Funny, right?

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que :()}; adpushup.que.push(function(){if(adpushup.config.platform!==”Desktop”){adp ushup.triggerad(“bb7964e9 -07de-4b06-4b06-a83e-a83e-ead35079d53c”) 9B1169D9-7A89-4971-A77F-1397F7588751″);}});

But that doesn’t stop there. This also means that as several car companies moved their own charging ports to align with Tesla’s supercharged network, they ended up doing so because the choice goes back to Musk’s early days with Tesla.

By then, even if Lucid’s first model, the Air Sedan, as Rawlinson originally envisioned, the company’s latest vehicle, The Gravity SUV, had moved the charge port to the driver’s rear-season panel, just like every Tesla .
