The exhibition industry, especially the advanced manufacturing exhibition industry, is experiencing significant growth, thanks to Southeast Asia’s vibrant business ecosystem, strong infrastructure and strategic positioning. The industry has benefited from key initiatives aimed at promoting innovation and technology, creating an ideal environment for professional exhibitions.
Thailand’s exhibition industry is poised for significant expansion, especially in advanced manufacturing (which involves the use of innovative technologies such as automation, digital tools and smart systems to improve production efficiency, precision and sustainability. Examples include robots on assembly lines and AI-driven quality control systems), a sector that is closely aligned with the country’s strategic goals. The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) recognises the key role that a vibrant business ecosystem and strong stakeholder network play in driving the country’s exhibition industry, especially in high-value sectors such as advanced manufacturing.
There are several factors that make Thailand a top destination for exhibitions in this field. Strategically located in Southeast Asia, Thailand offers easy access to key markets such as China, India and ASEAN countries. In addition to this geographical advantage, the country also has strong infrastructure, international standard exhibition venues, high-quality hospitality services and an efficient transportation network. These facilities are equipped with cutting-edge technology to meet the specific needs of exhibitions in the advanced manufacturing industry.
The Thai government has played a major role in this growth through the Thailand 4.0 plan. The plan is a policy framework that aims to transform Thailand into a value-based economy driven by innovation, technology and creativity. By nurturing key industries such as robotics, smart electronics and digital manufacturing, the government is creating a conducive environment for exhibitions in these industries. These events are important platforms to showcase the latest innovations, foster business partnerships and attract investment.
The Thailand MICE ecosystem is supported by a collaborative network of government agencies, private industry and international partners. TCEB’s leadership in working with these stakeholders ensures the industry continues to adapt to global trends. This collaborative approach has fostered the development of exhibitions specifically targeting advanced manufacturing, enhancing Thailand’s reputation as Asia’s leading exhibition hub.
A case in point is METALEX 2024, which will be held at BITEC in Bangkok from November 20 to 23. Focusing on smart industrial and cutting-edge machinery and technology from 3,000 global brands, the event embodies Thailand’s commitment to improving its manufacturing capabilities, providing a platform for sustainable development, and enhancing the country’s appeal as an industry-focused exhibition destination.
