The new Crosstrek looks very familiar, but unfortunately it drops the manual transmission option

The final U.S. version of the all-new Subaru Crosstrek has arrived. We already knew it would feature new technology and improved safety, but now we get to see what’s under the hood, too. Here’s a closer look at the Japanese automaker’s hot crossover.
We’ve already taken a close look at the updated Crosstrek’s styling when it debuts in other markets. To that end, the styling follows Subaru’s trend of incremental changes rather than revolutionary ones.
It retains the same overall silhouette it’s had since its inception, with the addition of smaller headlights and a wider front. In terms of overall dimensions, it’s 176.4 inches (4,480 mm) long, about 0.6 inches (15 mm) longer than the old Crosstrek. There’s also more use of dark plastic, especially on the front fascia. The new Crosstrek’s wheel arches are also nearly identical to those on the latest WRX. According to the automaker, the chassis is now about 10 percent stiffer and uses an electronic steering rack borrowed from the WRX.

Under the hood of the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek is the exact same powertrain as the outgoing model. This includes a 2.0-liter four-cylinder horizontally opposed engine with 152 horsepower (113 kilowatts) and a 2.5-liter engine with 182 horsepower (135 kilowatts). Every Crosstrek will send power to all four wheels via a Lineatronic CVT transmission.
That’s right, a manual transmission is no longer an option. As a result, every Crosstrek comes with Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist suite (which was previously unavailable on manual transmission models). It also doesn’t get any form of electrification, at least not yet.
Inside the base Crosstrek, buyers will also find the same 7-inch infotainment system as the old model. Thankfully, a new 11.6-inch portrait-oriented infotainment system is also available. We expected Subaru to offer a ton of accessories for the Crosstrek, but we were a little surprised to see very few improvements in terms of power or off-road upgrades. The base Crosstrek has a MSRP of $26,290 including destination, while the top-of-the-line Limited trim is $32,190.
