Ford Maverick unveils new sport version, focusing on style and driving dynamics
- The 2025 Ford Maverick lineup is further expanded with the addition of the Lobo street truck.
- The new model features sporty styling and handling upgrades, including brake calipers from the Focus ST.
- The Maverick Lobo is powered by the stock turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine, which produces 238 horsepower.
The 2025 Ford Maverick still smells like fresh donuts, but that hasn’t stopped the company from launching a new trim. The new Ford Maverick Lobo is the sportiest version of the compact truck yet, thanks to several visual and chassis upgrades.
Ford says the Maverick Lobo design was inspired by street trucks from the mid-’80s to early ’00s. The design began in 2019 with Ford designer Josh Blundo and evolved into a one-off model built by Tucci Hot Rods at SEMA in 2021.

The production Maverick Lobo has a wild look, mainly thanks to the black 19-inch Turbofan alloy wheels. Other features of the Lobo include a sportier front fascia, body-colored side skirts, and a matching rear bumper. The only thing missing is a set of wide fenders like those found in the Ford Ranger MS-RT. The truck is available in Velocity Blue, Carbonized Gray Metallic, Oxford White, and Shadow Black hues.
The interior theme is inspired by streetwear, with graffiti-style graphics on the leather-wrapped seats, Lobo lettering on the seatbacks, and contrast stitching in Grabber Blue and Electric Lime.
Under the hood of the Ford Maverick Lobo is the stock turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost powertrain, which produces the same 238 hp (177 kW / 241 PS) and 275 lb-ft (373 Nm) of torque as other ICE-powered models of the 2025 model year. The engine is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission, sending power to all four wheels via an all-wheel-drive system. Ford has added a larger radiator and fan for improved cooling, and has added a transmission oil cooler.
Despite the lack of extra power, the Maverick Lobo features a tweaked chassis that promises to be a “true road-going performance truck.” The front suspension is lowered 0.5 inches (13 mm) and the rear suspension is lowered 1.12 inches (29 mm) compared to the standard Maverick, while specially tuned shock absorbers are also included. As a result, the overall height is reduced by 0.8 inches (20 mm).
The steering has been retuned and a torque vectoring system has been added via a dual-clutch rear drive unit to enhance the driving characteristics of the small Ford truck. Stopping power is also enhanced by larger brakes and twin-piston calipers at the front, which are derived from the European-spec Ford Focus ST hatchback.
Finally, there’s a new Lobo driving mode that’s said to “improve cornering performance, grip and stability, helping to minimize understeer.” However, Ford says this mode should only be used on closed courses, as it unlocks full torque potential and reduces stability control intervention (similar to the Ford Mustang’s Track mode).
Ford has already started taking orders for the Maverick Lobo, with first deliveries expected in early 2025. Pricing in the official configurator starts at $42,090, including destination charges. However, this appears to be a high-end configuration that adds more equipment compared to the standard configuration.
