2025 Volvo XC90 debuts in India with refresh design and upgraded technology

The 2025 Volvo XC90 facelift is launched in India at a price of Rs. 10,300 (formerly showroom). The updated model has a slight price increase from the previous version and has brought a series of external design adjustments, new technology features and some equipment upgrades.

External updates

The latest iteration of the XC90 retains the familiar silhouette of the luxury SUV, but combines refreshing design elements influenced by Volvo’s flagship electric SUV (EX90). Key changes include a revised rear grille with diagonal panels, smaller “Thor Hammer” LED headlights and new bumpers.

At the rear, the taillights have darker tones, enhancing the SUV’s road state. The alloy wheel design has also been updated. For those who choose air suspension, the ground clearance can be increased from standard 238 mm to 267 mm.

Volvo also unveiled a new mulberry red exterior shade and added an existing palette of Onyx Black, Crystal White, Crystal White, denim blue, bright dusk and steam grey.

Internal and technical

Inside the cabin, the overall layout remains largely the same, retaining the black leather interior and minimalist Scandinavian design. The most famous upgrade is the new 11.2-inch portrait touch screen, replacing the old 9-inch unit. This updated system runs on Google-based software and provides over-the-air (OTA) software updates for improved convenience.

Volvo claims that the resolution of the touch screen has been improved to improve usability. Other luxury features such as a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, a 360-degree camera system, head display, memory seats and an air purifier with PM 2.5 filter continue to be part of the equipment list.

Powertrain: Mild gasoline mix continues

Under the hood, the make-up XC90 retains the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo-turbo engine and pairs with a gentle hybrid system. Power output is 250 hp and 360 nm of torque, which is transferred to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. Volvo claims that the SUV can accelerate from 0 km/hr in 7.7 seconds.

Market positioning and competitors

Prices rose by about Rs. The 2025 XC90 Facelift has 2 lakh rupees on the upcoming release, continuing to compete in the luxury SUV segment with the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5 and Audi Q7.

Although the XC90 (such as the Audi Q7) is equipped with only a gasoline powertrain, both Mercedes and BMW offer diesel engine options, besides their gasoline model. The Audi Q7 remains the most affordable product in the segment, positioning the XC90 as a slightly higher alternative.

in conclusion

With subtle design enhancements, an upgraded infotainment system and the focus retained on safety and comfort, the 2025 Volvo XC90 Facelift is designed to enhance the appeal of Indian luxury SUV buyers. Its Google-powered infotainment system and clean Scandinavian design spirit continues to take it a segment with German competitors.
