The camouflage on the facelifted Kia Sportage is starting to fade, with prototypes spotted without bulky disguises. Thanks to the stripper we can see some extensive updates.

The biggest change occurs at the front, as the model features a new rectangular grille design. The grille is flanked by vertical headlights with daytime running lights on the outer edges.

Below that is a new bumper with vertical fog lights and a rectangular center air intake. The designers also appear to have done away with the “nostrils,” as the transition from hood to fascia looks much smoother.

The rest of the design is pretty much carried over, but we can see new taillight graphics. The rear bumper is also new as it features slim reflectors and what looks like a centrally mounted light. The model might also feature a less conspicuous replica skid plate.
While this prototype is a short-wheelbase model for the European market, some of the styling tweaks could make their way to the long-wheelbase model sold in the U.S. Of course, only time will tell.

There’s no word on engine updates yet, but the current model has a variety of options, including a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with mild-hybrid technology. It produces 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS) and can be connected to either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Customers can also opt for a hybrid model that features a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine, an electric motor and a 1.49 kWh battery pack. This configuration gives the crossover a total output of 226 hp (169 kW / 229 PS).
Kia also offers a plug-in hybrid model, which is similar to the hybrid but has a more powerful engine and a larger 13.8 kWh battery pack. It has a combined output of 261 hp (195 kW / 265 hp) and an all-electric range of up to 43 miles (69 km).
