India’s electric vehicle (EV) market is expanding rapidly, providing more affordable options for environmentally conscious consumers. The top five most affordable electric cars are the MG Comet, Tata Punch EV and Citroen eC3, each of which combines practicality, modern design and cost-effectiveness. These models are ideal for those looking to transition to electric vehicles without spending too much money. With competitive prices, government incentives and rising fuel costs, these electric vehicles offer a sustainable and economical alternative to traditional petrol and diesel vehicles. Additionally, features like improved battery technology and increased charging infrastructure make these affordable electric vehicles more attractive for daily urban commuting in India.
MG Comet Electric Car
The Comet EV is one of the most affordable electric vehicles in the country. It is built on a pure electric platform, equipped with a 17.3kWh battery, and has an ARAI-certified cruising range of 230 kilometers, achieving zero tailpipe emissions. The MG model is priced at Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and also comes with a battery-as-a-service (BaaS) option that brings the price down to Rs 4.99 lakh, along with battery rental cost of Rs 2.5/km. This flexible pricing makes Comet EVs more accessible to urban drivers.
The car’s feature suite includes connected car technology, reversing camera with sensors, 12V power socket, ISOFIX child seat mounts, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, keyless entry, hill assist system, Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), 10.25-inch digital driver display, dual front airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), USB charging port and ABS with EBD.

The electric Tiago is available with two battery options: a 19.2kWh unit (mid-range) and a 24kWh unit (long-range). The former version produces 60bhp and 110Nm of torque when paired with an electric motor, while the latter version delivers 74bhp of maximum power and 114Nm of peak torque. The hatchback has an impressive range of 250km to 315km, depending on the battery pack chosen. Standout features of the EV include a 4-speaker Harman audio system with four tweeters, automatic air conditioning, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.
Tata Charge electric car

Both units are mated to permanent magnet synchronous motors; however, the mid-range (MR) variant produces less power (80bhp) compared to the long-range (LR) variant which produces 120bhp. The MR model can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 13.5 seconds, while the LR model reaches the same speed in 9.5 seconds.
Talking about features, you get dual 10.25-inch screens (one for infotainment and the other for instrumentation), connected car technology, optional power sunroof, ventilated front seats, air purifier, automatic climate control, cruise controls, jeweled rotary drive selector and wireless charger with LR models.
Citroën eC3
The eC3 is the French carmaker’s first all-electric car in India and is priced starting at Rs 11.61 lakh (ex-showroom). The Citroën eC3 is equipped with a 29.2kWh battery pack that drives a front axle-mounted electric motor. The motor generates 56 horsepower and 143 Nm of peak torque, enabling the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 60 km/h in 6.8 seconds, with a top speed of 107 km/h. The electric car has an ARAI-certified range of 320 kilometers and features two driving modes – Eco and Standard – as well as regenerative braking. The electric hatchback comes in two variants: Feel and Shine. It competes directly with the Tata Punch EV and is positioned as a more premium option compared to the Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet EV.
