Every detail of this motorcycle is worth a deep dive into its craftsmanship and design
- Combat Motors builds handmade motorcycles, like this P51 Combat Fighter.
- This model is sold out through the manufacturer, but the car has only 137 miles on the clock.
- It has some of the most interesting details we’ve ever seen on a modern bike.
Custom modern motorcycles are sometimes more about looks than practicality. They can focus on the engine rather than the engineering. The Combat Motors P51 Combat Fighter is the exact opposite. It features an air-cooled 132 ci V-Twin engine that makes 145 horsepower, which is probably the least impressive part of the entire design.
Many motorcycles use fairings to create a look. The P51 eschews that idea in favor of a raw aluminum chassis, complemented by carbon fiber components such as the pan, fenders, and heat shield. It also uses transparent elements to showcase important features.

Take the fuel tank, for example, where one can see the gasoline sloshing around in the tank. Another glass cover makes the tank, air intake, camshaft gears and belts clearly visible. There is no doubt that the level of detail and craftsmanship in these parts and components is high. In addition, there are some engineering details that not only add functionality but also visual interest.
The deflectors on either side of the headlights have integrated LED lighting. They serve as both everyday running lights and turn signals. Below them, you’ll see four brake discs. They look small, but the point is, four discs produce the same stopping power as a single, larger rotor. Each pair has three pads, one at each end and one in the middle, providing even braking force.
The wheels are also made of carbon fiber, and the smaller diameter brakes allow for better visibility into the cabin. The LED headlights are adaptive, and their focus changes as the bike turns. Every little detail has been carefully thought out. Combat Motors (formerly Confederate Motors) asked for $125,000 when the bike was new. The hand-built bike sold on Bring A Trailer for $81,500.
