The driver of the Volkswagen that was traveling at 122 mph claimed that he had a gas tank emergency, then

  • One Tiguan driver said she reached speeds of 122 mph as the gas in the tank ran out quickly.
  • After initially stopping to wait for police to catch up, she sped off again, sparking a second chase.
  • Police eventually forced her car into a ditch and subdued the repeat offender.

No one is perfect. We all make mistakes in life, and driving is no exception. But some people keep making bad decisions. One woman driving a Volkswagen Tiguan through eastern Arkansas is one example.

While no names have been revealed, we do have some important details about the female driver involved. The chase took place just after 3 a.m. on April 7, 2024, in West Memphis, near the Tennessee-Arkansas border. If you’ve followed our coverage here at Carscoops, you know that Arkansas police officers don’t hesitate to use force against motorists.

It all started in this video, where the suspect drove a Volkswagen past a stopped Arkansas State Trooper at 122 mph (196 kph). Think about that stupid decision. Of course, the officer gave chase, eventually caught up and initiated a traffic stop. It took the Volkswagen driver about a minute to pull over. This feels like a second mistake.

When they pulled over, they pleaded with the officer that they were dealing with an “emergency.” What was the emergency? “I’m out of gas!” they said. Strike out, but this wasn’t a baseball game, so the shenanigans continued.

After a brief conversation with the screaming officer (which was probably not the officer’s best move), the driver fled the scene again!

At this point, patience with this suspect has completely run out. The ASP officer quickly catches up, uses the PIT maneuver, and begins the arrest process. “I’m just trying to get to the gas station,” the suspect yells. The woman doesn’t seem to realize the connection between speed and fuel economy.

When asked if she drank, she tactfully replied, “Not much.” I can’t even count how many bad decisions she made during this phase.

The woman was ultimately charged with only a few serious counts of reckless driving, speeding and drinking with an open bottle, the video said. Remember, people like this not-so-bright Volkswagen driver are everywhere.
