The industry’s first 1.6Tb/s coherent technology goes live at ECOC

Ciena’s WaveLogic 6 Extreme coherent transceiver is the world’s first solution to deliver 1.6Tb/s per wavelength and ubiquitous, unregenerated 800Gb/s connectivity across the network. It delivers twice the capacity in the same footprint, 50% lower power per bit, and 15% higher spectral efficiency than previous generation technology. The WL6e integrates 3nm CMOS, 200 GBaud electro-optics, and new DSP innovations to deliver the ultimate fiber capacity with less equipment. With the WL6e delivering 1.6Tb/s in metro ROADM networks, 1.2Tb/s over 1000km distances, and 800G on the longest links, including across the Pacific, networks can now efficiently transport 400G/800G client connections across all applications.
