The more affordable Bajaj Freedom CNG variant is available in

Last month, Bajaj Auto launched its first mass-market CNG motorcycle in India, the Freedom 125. With bookings ongoing across India, Bajaj plans to expand the reach of the CNG motorcycle and make it available in 77 Indian cities by August 15, 2024, India’s 78th Independence Day.

The Bajaj Freedom 125 is priced between Rs 95,000 and Rs 1.1 lakh (ex-showroom) and is currently available in three variants: Drum, Drum LED and Disc LED. These variants are already known, but a test bike of what looks to be a more affordable CNG motorcycle has been spotted testing in secret in India, and unlike the Freedom 125, this more affordable motorcycle is likely to target the 100cc commuter segment.

With this in mind, the more affordable version of the Freedom CNG will feature a slanted, smaller capacity single-cylinder engine compared to the existing Freedom, which features a 125cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine. The 125cc engine produces 9.3bhp at 8,000rpm and 9.7Nm of torque at 6,000rpm while being connected to a five-speed gearbox. Other components, including the main frame and 2-litre CNG tank, are expected to remain.

More affordable Bajaj Freedom CNG: What do the spy shots reveal?

From the front, the more affordable Bajaj Freedom CNG is likely to differ from the Freedom 125 – the front fork guards are smaller, the headlight is halogen, and the mudguard design is simpler. As part of the cost-cutting measures, the front mudguard is single-tone instead of a dual-tone finish, and the test bike does not have the obvious shrouds around the telescopic forks on the Freedom 125.

At the rear, the upcoming motorcycle is likely to feature silver handlebars along with longer tire protectors to prevent rain water from splashing on the vehicle. Lastly, the exhaust heat shield should get a chrome finish.

Being a more affordable version, it should offer a basic instrument cluster (LCD) with no Bluetooth support. Braking duties are expected to be performed by drum brakes at both ends. The launch date is yet to be announced but the more affordable Freedom CNG bike is expected to be launched in the coming months.
