The all-new eighth-generation BMW 5 Series has finally been launched in India. As we said earlier, it is only available in the Long Wheelbase (LWB) variant. The 5 Series LWB is priced at Rs 7.29 lakh (ex-showroom) and is brought to India via CBU.
The launch of the new long wheelbase sedan makes BMW the only luxury car brand in India to have three long wheelbase sedans. Other BMW models that offer long wheelbase versions include the 3 Series Long Wheelbase Sedan and the 7 Series Long Wheelbase Sedan.
The new 5 Series LWB will be available in a single 530Li M Sport model, with deliveries starting in September this year.
BMW 5 Series LWB: Dimensions
length: 5,175 mm
width: 1,900 mm
high: 1,520 mm
Wheelbase: 3,105 mm
Size comparison with some competitors:
length | width | high | Wheelbase | |
BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase | 5,175 mm | 1,900 mm | 1,520 mm | 3,105 mm |
Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB | 5,092 mm | 1,880 mm | 1,493 mm | 3,094 mm |
Audi A6 | 4,939 mm | 1,886 mm | 1,457 mm | 2,924 mm |
Lexus ES300H | 4,975 mm | 1,865 mm | 1,445 mm | 2,870 mm |
Volvo S90 | 4,969 mm | 1,879 mm | 1,440 mm | 2,941 mm |
It’s easy to see that the BMW 5 Series LWB is the largest sedan in its segment. It’s even larger in every respect than the upcoming next-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class Long Wheelbase. The new 5 Series is comparable in size to the previous generation’s larger 7 Series, which measures 5,120 mm in length.
Compared to the model it replaces, the BMW 6 Series GT, the new 5 Series is 84 millimeters taller.
design
The 5 Series LWB comes with an all-black kidney grille which now features an illuminated design like some of the more expensive BMWs. The grille is wrapped in a gold frame casing which makes the car look more futuristic. The 18-inch alloy wheels have been the highlight of this car. The alloy wheels feature a star pattern which makes the car look more sophisticated. The side profile of the tires is quite high which makes them look a bit too small for a car of such a large size.
The upturned lights at the front give this car some resemblance to some of the older E60 5 Series models. Despite its massive size, the car’s 5 Series identity is still clearly discernible thanks to the “5” printed on the C-pillar. At the rear, you’ll see stylish triple-LED taillights in a wraparound design. The bumper is sporty with an all-black diffuser, quad-tip exhaust pipes, and a gold bezel that matches the front grille.

The 5 Series LWB’s cabin has a modern and premium feel, with panels made up of multiple layers and a mix of hard and soft plastics. Some notable features are:
