The upcoming Jawa 42 is expected to be powered by the 334cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that is used in the Jawa 350.
Jawa has teased the upcoming launch of its upgraded neo-classic model 42, which will be launched in India on September 3. The upcoming Jawa 42 will be all-new compared to the existing 42 that Jawa launched a while ago and is expected to have new colour options and revised styling to make it stand out. The latest update brings engine tweaks and more comfortable seats.
The current Jawa 42 is powered by a J-Panther 294.72cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that produces 27bhp of power and 26.84Nm of peak torque, while the new Jawa 42 is expected to feature a 334cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that is used in the Jawa 350. In the Jawa 350, the 334cc Alpha-2 engine produces 22.2bhp of power at 7,000rpm and 28.2Nm of peak torque at 5,000rpm, and the drivetrain is handled by a 6-speed unit. The main frame may also be different. The Jawa 42 is currently offered with a double-cradle tubular frame.

A digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity is also likely to be offered. Like the current Jawa 42, the new model should be offered with a choice of spoke or alloy wheels and come with ABS. We expect more details to be announced in due course. While the price announcement is still a while away, Jawa is likely to price the new 42 between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 2.1 lakh (ex-showroom).
Available Jawa 42: models, prices
The current version of the Jawa 42 is available in three configurations – Spoke wheels with single-channel ABS; Spoke wheels with dual-channel ABS; and Alloy wheels with dual-channel ABS. The Jawa 42 range starts with the base Vega White (single-channel ABS, Spoke wheels) priced at Rs 1.73 lakh (ex-showroom), while the mid-range and top-spec variants come with dual-channel ABS. The top-spec variants are the only ones to come with alloy wheels and a fully digital instrument console. They are priced at Rs 1.98 lakh (ex-showroom).

In terms of market competition, Jawa 42’s rivals are Honda H’ness CB350, Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Benelli Imperiale 400.
