KTM debuted a model of the new generation Adventure at the recent EICMA trade show in Milan. The variant in question is called the R, an off-road-focused version with a taller body and an upright front fairing. The seat height of the new 390 Adventure R is a whopping 885 mm, which is quite high for some riders in India. As a solution, KTM launched a road-oriented X model with a lower seat height of 825mm due to the lower suspension. As the 11th edition of India Bike Week (IBW), one of the biggest motorcycle events in India, is all set to kick off in Goa on December 6, we expect KTM to launch the X as well as R models at the event. The global-spec KTM 390 Adventure comes in R, X, Enduro R and Supermoto variants – the third one to be showcased at EICMA 2024 along with the Adventure R. While we’re still two weeks away from the IBW debut, let’s take a look at what to expect from the 390 Adventure R and 390 Adventure X:
New KTM 390 Adventure X: What to expect?
The road-oriented X will be the entry point into the lineup. We expect a steel trellis frame, non-adjustable suspension with 200mm of travel, LCD console, non-cornering ABS and a seat height of 825mm (same as the Himalayan 450). The X is likely to run on 19/17-inch alloy wheels paired with road tires. It is expected to be available in two colors at launch: black/orange and white/orange.

The new KTM 390 Adventure R: what to expect?
As for the R version, it is expected to come with the H50 TFT console with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation. The model is likely to ride on the same chassis as the X, but with adjustable suspension (230mm of wheel travel). As a typical off-roader, the bike is expected to come with 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wire-spoke wheels wrapped in dual-purpose tires. The seat height will be higher than the X, but still manageable for the rider. Other expected features include cornering ABS, cruise control and switchable traction control. The R may be offered in a single color scheme: white/orange.
New KTM 390 Adventure: Engine
Both models are likely to be equipped with the same 399cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine as the 2024 KTM 390 Duke. Mated to a six-speed gearbox, this engine in the 390 Duke produces 45bhp at 8,500rpm and 39Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. The new KTM 390 Adventure is expected to use an engine with a slightly different tune.

KTM may also reveal the 390 Enduro R – a dual-sport bike with 21/18-inch spoked wheels – at the 2024 IBW. Although it is not confirmed yet, KTM may launch the new 390 Adventure series sometime in 2025. The bikes are likely to be priced between Rs 3.50,000 and Rs 3.70,000 (ex-showroom) in India.
