Infiniti has had a dismal sales year in China. among Unconfirmed (yet) Due to rumors that it may withdraw from the market, the brand chose the Guangzhou Auto Show as the stage to launch its new high-end QX60 concept car. Created to celebrate Infiniti’s 35th anniversary, the special edition adds a touch of luxury to the high-end SUV, possibly to lure consumers away from increasingly dominant Chinese brands.

The QX60’s striking appearance is undoubtedly its main attraction. The bodywork has been painted a dark purple befitting an SUV, accentuating some of the lines and most eye-catching panels. Subsequently, Infiniti designers ditched the chrome trim common on the QX60 and replaced it with rose gold trim. These are visible around the front grille, in the strip that runs along the doors and on the side window frames.
Moving to the rear, the rose gold trim extends to the badges and around the exhaust pipes, maintaining the same look throughout. Other exterior upgrades include a redesigned front bumper with gloss black elements, tweaked rocker panels, and a functional roof rack with a large storage bin on top.
Infiniti also put a lot of work into the SUV’s interior. Nearly all interior surfaces are now bathed in luscious purple leather, including the dash, door panels, and transmission tunnel. Plenty of rose gold elements are also found inside the car, such as on the steering wheel, door panels, air vents and around the gear lever.
grim numbers
The launch comes against the backdrop of Infiniti’s dismal sales in China. The brand sold just 1,916 cars between January and October, down sharply from 5,825 sales for all of 2023. The decline highlights a broader trend as local consumers increasingly favor domestically produced cars from local brands and look overseas as companies like Infiniti struggle to regain market share.
Local reports indicate a major internal reorganization of Infiniti’s China operations, adding to the uncertainty. According to Autohome, the brand is said to have undergone a large-scale personnel reorganization, and its former head is said to have been transferred to serve within Dongfeng Nissan. However, Infiniti has publicly denied speculation that it plans to exit the market.
