The top five best-selling sedans in August: Maruti Suzuki Dzire;

Despite a year-on-year decline in sales, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire remained the best-selling sedan in India in August 2024. It accounted for 42.96% of the total sedan sales, indicating its continued dominance in the segment. The Hyundai Aura was second, while the Honda Amaze was third on the sales chart. However, both models saw a year-on-year decline in sales. Here is the complete list of the top 5 best-selling cars in August 2024.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire

The Dzire sold 10,627 units last month, down 20.6% from the 13,293 units sold in the same period of 2023. The sedan is available in four variants: ZXi, ZXi+, VXi and LXi, priced between Rs 6.57 lakh and Rs 9.34 lakh (ex-showroom). It is powered by a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine that produces 89 hp and 113 Nm of torque and is mated to a five-speed manual or AMT gearbox. When powered by CNG, the same engine produces 76 hp and 98.5 Nm of torque with a five-speed MT gearbox.

Hyundai Aura

The Hyundai Aura retained its position as the second best-selling sedan in India in August. Hyundai sold 4,304 units, down 12.02 per cent from 4,892 units sold last year. The subcompact sedan is available in six monochromatic exterior paint schemes and is priced starting at Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. Mechanically, the Aura’s 1.2-litre engine produces 114Nm of peak torque and 82bhp of maximum power when mated to an AMT or a five-speed manual gearbox. However, when running on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), the same engine delivers 68bhp and 95Nm of torque when mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.

Honda Surprise

The Amaze was third with sales of 2,585 units. This is a year-on-year decline of 27.47% compared to 3,564 units sold in the same period last year. The sub-4-metre long car is powered by a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 110Nm and 88bhp, mated to either a CVT or a five-speed manual gearbox. It is available in three core variants (E, S and VX) and is priced between Rs 7.20 lakh and Rs 9.96 lakh (all ex-showroom).

Volkswagen Vitos

The Volkswagen Virtus was fourth in sales last month with 1,876 units sold, albeit down 12.34% year-on-year. For reference, the car sold 2,140 units in August last year. The Virtus is available in our market with two petrol engine options: a 1.0-litre engine with 113 hp and a 1.5-litre engine with 148 hp. It is priced between Rs 10.90 lakh and Rs 19.41 lakh (both ex-showroom).

Modern acceptance

Modern Acceptance

Hyundai Verna surpassed Tata Tigor to become the fifth best-selling sedan in India. Its sales stood at 1,194 units, down 53.65% from 2,576 units sold in the same period last year. The Hyundai sedan is available with petrol engine options: 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with 158 hp and 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine with 113 hp. It retails between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 17.42 lakh. These are ex-showroom prices.
