Ola Roadster X: Fast start, affordable
Ola Roadster is the latest entrant in the electric motorcycle market. There are three models available: Roadster, Roadster X and Roadster Pro. Each model comes with unique features tailored to different rider preferences. The Roadster range is designed to cater to different groups, from daily commuters to performance enthusiasts. This marks a major step forward for Ola Electric towards its goal of accelerating the adoption of Electric Vehicles (EV) in the Indian Two-Wheeler (2W) market.
Roadster: Pushing the limits, not the price
With a peak motor output of 11 kW, the Roadster X can accelerate from 0 to 40 km/h in 2.8 seconds. The top speed is 124 km/h and the maximum range is 200 km, making it an ideal choice for urban riders. The battery pack of the Roadster X is available in three sizes: 2.5 kWh, 3.5 kWh and 4.5 kWh, providing flexibility in terms of range and performance. The Roadster X starts at Rs 74,999 for the 2.5 kWh model, Rs 84,999 for the 3.5 kWh model and goes up to Rs 99,999 for the 4.5 kWh battery model.
The Roadster model has better performance, with a peak motor output of 13 kW. It accelerates from 0-40 km/h in just 2.2 seconds and has a top speed of 126 km/h. It has a range of up to 248 km. Battery pack options include 3.5 kWh, 4.5 kWh and 6 kWh. This makes the Roadster suitable for those who need a balance between city commuting and long-distance driving. The 3.5 kWh model of the Roadster is priced at Rs 1,04,999, the 4.5 kWh model is priced at Rs 1,19,999 and the 6 kWh model is priced at Rs 1,39,999.
Pro Mode: Roadster goes all out – The Roadster Pro is the powerhouse of the range with a peak motor output of 52 kW and 105 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0-40 km/h in 1.2 seconds and can reach a top speed of 194 km/h. With an amazing range of 579 km, it is targeted at riders who are looking for high performance and greater range. The battery pack of the Roadster Pro is available in 8 kWh and 16 kWh versions. It comes with a liquid-cooled motor and battery that outputs 105 Nm of torque. The price range of the Roadster Pro starts from Rs 1,99,999 to Rs 2,49,999. for its 8 kWh and 16 kWh versions.
Technological advancements: Ola’s digital leap
In terms of braking system, the Roadster series adopts advanced safety features. The Roadster X adopts Combined Braking System (CBS), the Roadster adopts single-channel ABS, and the Roadster Pro adopts dual-channel switchable ABS.
Digital innovation is at the core of the Roadster range with features like Ola Map Navigation, Proximity Unlock and Cruise Control. The range also integrates Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Traction Control and Geo-Fencing. Artificial Intelligence features like Krutrim Assistant along with smartwatch app and road trip planner merge technology with mobility.
MoveOS: When your motorcycle becomes forward-thinking
All three models are powered by Ola’s MoveOS 5, which offers a host of technological features. The riding experience is expanded with various modes such as Sport, Normal, Eco, Ultra, Race, City, Rain, Off-road and DIY, allowing riders to tailor their journey to their preferences.
MoveOS on the motorcycle offers ABS and Cornering ABS, Emergency SOS, Speed Limit Alert, Collision Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control and Overtaking Assist for its safety suite. The Performance Package handles DIY mode, traction control, electronic suspension control, Race mode, turbo boost and cornering lights. The Roadster X gets a 4.3-inch LCD, the Roadster gets a 6.8-inch TFT touchscreen and the Roadster Pro gets a 10-inch TFT touchscreen.
Roadster today, Sportster tomorrow: Ola’s electrification journey
Bookings/reservations for Roadster X and Roadster models will open from 15th August 2024. Deliveries are expected to start in Q4 FY2025 (expected January 2025). Roadster Pro will be available in Q4 FY2026 (around Diwali 2026). Ola Electric announced the launch of Bharat 4680 battery cell and pack as a key development. It is expected to be integrated into their electric motorcycles in Q1 FY2026. This development is expected to increase the adoption of batteries in line with Ola’s long-term vision of sustainable transportation.
In addition, Ola also launched a new electric motorcycle – Sportster in the Roadster series. The future Sports series will further expand its product line with the launch of unique Arrowhead and Diamondhead products. There will also be Adventure series and Cruiser series. It is expected that multiple models will meet the diverse customer needs in the fast-growing electric 2W market. The 2W market in India is mainly dominated by motorcycles. The launch of the Roadster series may affect the market dynamics, which may drive the popularity of electric motorcycles.
