Honda Activa and TVS Jupiter and Suzuki Access continue to lead – Ola S1 continues to lead TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak

Following our previous post on the top 10 two-wheelers in October 2024, we now evaluate the sales of the entire scooter segment. The segment performed strongly year-on-year and month-on-month with sales of 6,64,713 units in October 2024. This represents a year-on-year increase of 27.21% from 5,22,541 units sold in October 2023, with sales increasing by 1,42,172 units. Compared to 6,05,873 units sold in September 2024, the month-on-month sales volume increased by 9.71%, with sales increasing by 58,840 units.

Top 10 scooter sales in October 2024

Honda Activa once again emerged as the leader in the segment with sales of 2,66,806 units in October 2024. Compared with the sales of 2,18,856 units in October 2023, this represents a year-on-year growth of 21.91%. The month-on-month increase was 1.71%, and the sales volume in October 2023 increased by 1.71%. 62,316 units sold in September 2024. Honda Activa, which was also the second best-selling two-wheeler in October 2024, currently holds 40.14% market share. Demand for its electric products, due to be launched later this month, is likely to increase. It promises a strong range capability of 104 kilometers.

TVS Jupiter also showed that sales in October 2024 increased by 19.47% year-on-year and 6.58% month-on-month to 1,09,702 units. 91,824 units and 1,02,934 units were sold in October 2023 and September 2024 respectively. TVS Jupiter holds 16.50% share in the scooter market. Their Activa and Jupiter are the only two scooters to have sold more than 100,000 units.

In third place is the Suzuki Access, with 74,813 units sold last month. Compared with the 56,909 units sold in October 2023, this represents a year-on-year increase of 31.46%. Access also saw a significant month-on-month growth of 39.28% from the 53,715 units sold in September 2024. The market share increased from 8.87% to 11.25% month-on-month. The Suzuki Access may also soon launch an electric car to compete with the Honda Activa, which may have a range of 120 km.

Electric scooters have seen impressive year-on-year growth

Despite complaints from consumers, Ola Electric remains the leader in the segment. Ola S1 ranked fourth in the top ten sales list of electric scooters in October 2024, while last month the company held the first position in the electric two-wheeler sales list. Euler S1 had the highest sales volume, reaching 41,651 units, a year-on-year increase of 74.33% and a month-on-month increase of 68.77%. The sales volume in October 2023 and September 2024 are 23,892 units and 16,972 units respectively.

In October 2024, Bajaj Chetak sales surged 152.48% year-on-year to 30,644 units, showing strong acceptance of this electric scooter. This is far more than the 12,137 units sold in October 2023. Chetak sales also increased by 7.46% from 28,517 units sold in September 2024. Demand for TVS iQube electric scooters also improved in October 2024. Sales volume increased by 43.75% year-on-year to 28,923 units, with sales volume increasing by 8,802% to 20,121 units sold in the same month last year. Compared with the 28,529 units sold in September 2024, this represents a month-on-month increase of 1.38%. TVS iQube currently holds 4.35% market share.

TVS Ntorq (40,065 units) and Honda Dio (33,179 units) both recorded year-on-year sales growth in October 2024. However, Honda Dio sales fell by 6.19% month-on-month from 35,370 units in September 2024. Suzuki Burgman and Yamaha Ray ZR each achieved year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter sales growth. Bergman sales were 20,479 units, a year-on-year increase of 13.33% and a month-on-month increase of 38.30%. Sales of Ray ZR were 18,451 units, a year-on-year increase of 33.03% and a month-on-month increase of 11.54%.
