Despite a year-on-year decline of 8.4%, Maruti Suzuki remained the best-selling car brand in August 2024. Its sales stood at 1.43 lakh units compared to 1.56 lakh units in August last year. After the Swift maker, Hyundai Motor ranked second with sales of 49,525 units. This was a decline of 8% compared to the 53,830 units supplied in the same period last year. Maruti Suzuki
Although Maruti Suzuki’s sales declined year-on-year, they grew 4.1% month-on-month in August 2024. The company sold 1.37 lakh units in July, which was lower than its sales in August. Also, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza emerged as the best-selling sedan and SUV last month with sales of 19,190 units. This was an impressive growth of 31.69% compared to the 14,572 units supplied in August last year.

Hyundai’s sales in August increased by 1% month-on-month, although they were down (8%) year-on-year. For reference, sales in July were 49,013 units, while the previous month was 49,525 units. The Creta grew 21.18% year-on-year and led the sales charts in the compact SUV segment. It sold 16,762 units, while the 2023 sold 13,832 units in August.
Tata Motors
The Nexon maker was the third best-selling brand in August this year. Its sales fell 3% year-on-year to 44,142 units. Month-on-month sales also fell 1.3%. The company recently launched the Curvv in India, which ranked fifth among the best-selling compact SUVs last month. While the ICE version (Rs 10 lakh) was launched in September, the EV version (Rs 17.49 lakh) went on sale in August this year.
Mahindra
In August 2024, Mahindra sold 43,277 vehicles, an impressive 16% year-on-year growth. The manufacturer also recorded a month-on-month growth of 4%. Scorpio was the fourth most popular SUV in August with 13,787 units sold. Its sales grew by an impressive 39.29% year-on-year.

Toyota
Toyota Motor sold 28,589 vehicles in August, up 36.3% year-on-year, but its sales in July were 29,533 vehicles, down 3.2% from the previous month.
